what happened to the astralwerks neu! lp's?

They sold out and now they're gone. I'll never understand why some big labels run out of their vinyl reissues all the time when they sell really well (This includes Matador, Dr. Dave! Keep that PAvement and YLT shit in print! And where's the GBV bro???)

I'll boot the Desperate Bicycles singles as a LP tomorrow if someone takes every copy for distro and tells me about mastering houses and plants that would ignore such things.

expand that mo'fucking dolly mixture...or, better yet, issue a 12" of unissued early recordings for folks who already have the dbl lp.

i know there are great cuts (goddamn "dead rainbows"!!!) that aren't on the original and should be.

and a tvps singles comp is much needed.

Discords LP on Hangman, also:

Delmonas, Milkshakes, Caesars, Headcoats, in print, please.  I *think* that catalogue would sell.

Gal Costa stuff to go with all the Tropicalia boots turning up.

Yeh Yeh shit you could make a killing off of: Francoise Hardy, France Gall etc., the indie kids love that shit.

Maybe they're just sitting back and waiting for someone to do it.

that's my sneaking suspicion. i just hope someone does it up nice and not half-assed.

apparently, the guy from beyond the implode is really difficult to deal with...a 12" with both singles sure would be nice for the plebs...

i contacted eddie from beyond the implode earlier this year to see if he'd be down for a straight 7" reissue of their first record and he said he was going to do something himself.  he seemed like a nice enough guy.

i guess hyped to death were also trying to do a beyond the implode reissue.

i'm sure he's a nice enough guy; however, i've been hearing the same story about his reissue for the past five years.

would hyped to death actually spring for a vinyl reissue? i kinda doubt it.

Hyped to Death would never do vinyl. Never.

Imagine how many Shivvers and Homosexuals would sell? Ridiculous.

I actually inquired about both. It's difficult because of the wranglings.

The Gal Costa stuff would be great. All the stuff up through "Canta Caymmi" is great. Also, there are enough non-LP tracks of hers lying around to make a great rarities LP. I have enough stuff on singles, Brazilian comps & other artist's records where she does guest vocals to make a solid LP.

Also on the Brazilian tip: Erasmo Carlos - Sonhos e Memorias 1941 - 1972. Fucking killer record. Something more people in to Brazilian stuff should hear for sure.

I got hopeful a few years ago when I read somewhere that an Aussie label was looking to reissue the two first Venom P. Stinger LPs with the "Walking About" 7" on a CD. It never happened. It would still be worth its weight in gold even on CD to me, but vinyl would be even better.

Would also love to see all three Fungus Brains albums on vinyl again, but I can understand why that won't likely ever happen.

It does seek like Dark Day reissues would sell pretty quickly in these minimal synth-friendly times.

As for local stuff that should be unearthed, there's Ozzie.

A couple years ago, I had a conversation with Chris Strachwitz, the guy who runs Yazoo and pretty much a record label legend, on the subject of vinyl. He said that he didnt think that he had a market for vinyl, that his audience was CD. I told him that his main market might be CD but that he had a market for vinyl, though it isnt probably more than 500 - 2000 on any one release. Not interested. Numbers arent big enough to justify. Not that they need to. I really doubt the "death of the cd" or filesharing has affected them much. If anything it has  hurt them in developing a  younger audience, but no impact on their regulars. If you go to Strachwitz's store, Downhome Music, he has plenty of back catalog on vinyl (as well as titles on other reissuers) and for awhile it was all at pre-cd prices, but when dealers started grazing the store for ebay material, they quickly upped the prices. At best you can get some stuff for $10 or $15 but a lot of it is $25+. I know they also have vinyl in their warehouse but after several attempts to get at it, I gave up. I also asked a couple times about buying their vinyl from them at wholesale prices for resale. Nope. And then asked about reissuing some of their stuff on vinyl. Nope. Like a lot of archivists, they are very protective about what they uncovered. More than happy to donate it to Smithsonian or a public archive, not so happy to turn it over to a (perceived) for profit biz.

Gone, now fetching $30ish+.

We need more Aussie punk comps on vinyl, esp those CD-only things. The Scientists early years double CD on SFTRI is now o/p and would be a fab double LP that would sell well at $22 or so.

The BIG question with all of this reissue action is price point. You could picture a nice Francoise Hardy LP reissue series come rolling along, but if they are all French imports fetching $40 a pop that kind of kills the whole buzz. For most of these records, they really should aim for the $12-18 price range. But I guess some old labels/copyright owners figure this is their last chance to rape purchasers of physical product so they jack it the hell up. I know, I know, a decent reissue where the artist gets paid is totally worth some of these $25 price tags I'm seeing, but some of these are getting ridic.

Some of the OG Rave Up titles that are solid all the way through (Reactors/Testors/Features/Epicycle, etc.) could be re-reissued with improved cover art, as long as they are cheapish. 'nother 500 at least out the door there.
