Dave,

Are you bringing copies to Other Music today?  Are they even going out on the shelf for sale?  I called yesterday and the person who answered the phone thought not.

You should have asked to speak to the owner, and then beat his ass in his own store.

Instead, you taught him an important lesson: that kinda thing is acceptable behavior.

Obviously the kind of storeowner who'd do anything to make a quick buck.

Whatever. I know a lot of you will disagree with me and I know this is not "punk", but I don't see any problem with selling something for "the going price."  If I had a pair of boots that I could sell at Buffalo Exchange for ten bucks or sell on Ebay for 100, it would be retarded of me not to put them on Ebay.  It's not his fault that you idiots are willing to pay $50 for this record, and as long as people are willing to pay that, I see no problem with selling something at that price.  We live in a world where we have to have money to do simple things like eat and pay rent, and if other people have extra money to throw away on stupid shit, I see no problem with taking it.

The only problem I have with this situation is that the dude retracted on a verbal contract. That's a shitty move.

I think Matador should just put the rest of the singles directly on ebay and see how much rolls in.  Then they could give the extra money to some young poor bands so they are able to tour.  Either that or they should use it to throw some elaborate party where there are water fountains made of booze and drug dispensers in the bathrooms.

Looks like the only way for me to complete this singles club business is to get lucky and get the last one, throw it up on ebay immediately and get a stupid amount of money, wait a month for prices to drop a bit, and then get 5 and 6.

Here's another great record store story: I called the Reckless Records in the Loop on Sunday, they said they'd hold a copy for me to pick up on Tuesday. Ten minutes later they call me back and say it's a no-go. They actually aren't getting copies. Mmm-Hmm.
All three Chicago Reckless stores did get copies, but not many.  Perhaps the person on the phone spoke to soon and the copies were already all spoken for?  Or perhaps they just thought they were not getting any.  I'd say check again just to be certain.

I called all three stores. No luck. My guess is that they did run out of available copies, and then just decided to lie about it. Why else would they say "yup, we're gettin' 'em. Yup, we'll hold one for ya" in the first place? The dude knew they were coming in.

Well, I'm off to soulseek to see whether or not this record is even worth the trouble to acquire.

it probably isn't. these songs seem like stuff he's had in storage for a while and he's using them to throw matador a bone. which personally i think is great if he makes some good change from it. but this stuff holds not a candle to blood visions.

by the way, is there supposed to be a new studio album after all this?  not the comped LP of Matador singles, I mean is there a new album in the works here?

The person who answers the phone might not know the full story.  I've seen that sort of stuff happen all the time at a busy record store.

I made the doltish mistake of telling the guy who does the orders at my local store how much they're going for on eBay.  His eyes kind of lit up, like "Oh really?!"  He had no idea before I told him.  I've been lucky so far and am supposedly "at the top" of the preorder list there for the final installment, but something tells me that I'm gonna finish up with a 5 outta 6 on this little endeavor.

Supposed to be one out in '09.

I didn't get 4 or 5, and I've decided not to buy any of those or the new one unless I get extraordinarily lucky and get it from matador/a mailorder for ten bucks or less.  I'm not paying that much for a new seven inch.

Pre-order boob theory is bunk, two copies over here had Jay on the cover.
