the worst CT stuff is all the bland new wave altered zones bait bands, which is most of their back catalog. looking through their youtube page, i spot diiv, wild nothing, beach fossils, craft spells, blouse, soft metals. rough stuff, mac demarco looks like a songwriting genius in comparison.

Ya srsly all those bands suck. But that's more beach rock than altered zones which was way more NEW AGEY like those posers prince rama

I actually like that wood 7" they did back in the day. And early blank dogs were cool and fucked up and then they sucked.

That cosmetics 7"
Was great8 also

BUT ThATs It!!!!!! Hundreds of bad albums = thousands of bad SONGS!

Only thing I've heard on the label that I've cared for is the Teenage Panzerkorps 7" that Sniper rescued from this thread.

That Dead Luke reworking of Jumpin' Jack Flash is good enough that I don't mind that the rest of the CT's output is pablum.

CT releases I dig:

Ohsees "Dog Poison" LP (the only Dwyer "solo" Ohsees record I like)
Teenage Panzerkorps "Knut Hamsun" 7"
Girls at Dawn 12"

Brilliant Colors and Bitters have a coupla tracks

Snipes KILLS it with the reissues though. That Monochrome Set LP is the best thing on the label, plus all the Cleaners From Venus stuff and that Outsiders 12" they just did is pretty great. Plus all the FN/NZ stuff if that counts.

Worst CT releases: anything by The Beets

All of the Cleaners stuff is great, and no one else stepped up, so good on CT for reissuing it -- in boxes and as single LPs.  Same with some of the Flying Nun material, though I can leave most of it.  Maybe that's just me.

A reissue of the Wake is pretty funny.  Couple other funny reissues in there, too.

I don't give a shit about most of it.  As far as contempo stuff, no way.  Reprehensible.

Best:
Cosmetics
Jameses 7"

I like the B Boys record they recently put out also.

Worst:
one of their early releases was this band Kid Romance who are one of the worst bands I've seen live.
Not into most of the catalog and realize I'm not the audience for it so could care less.

Did sound for them last night. Nice dudes, decent band. The drummer had his snare all taped up with some velcro shit that made it sound like an '80s gated snare. Not the choice I would make, but it worked and was actually kind of cool, if for no other fact than it was different.

But I preferred the gnarly lady-led punk of Surbort, who also performed a real good cover of "(I'm The) Hillside Strangler." That was nice.

And Wireheads from Adelaide were really cool. Some of their songs sound like Yummy Fur. One of their members is even a sometime user of this here board.

And that's my show review.

Hard to argue with this logic:
Worst CT releases: anything by The Beets

Isn't that sacred bones. Where did like go after Wisconsin? I heard Cali.

Anyways - I actually hate cleaners from Venus.

I like that nz stuff a little bit. The clean r kool. And the chills.

Fuck still, makes me sick to think it's being reissued from sushi man

You're totally right. Memory goes when you get old. Well there you have it, the best CT release is actually a Sacred Bones release.

Wild Nothing has some amazing tracks and some total garbage, the new DIIV lp is a masterpiece of pop music.
Many CT/Demarco fans suck, but that's the case when you are marketing to young people.

I was thinking of posting a thread on rip-offs but I will just drop this here for now if you have ever been burnt on a "pre-arrival".

Quote
Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings for Premier Cru began on January 27, per Contra Costa Times, after the company claimed $7 million in assets and $70 million in debt...

Premier Cru frequently sold wines on a "pre-arrival" basis, meaning its store was not in possession of certain bottles, so shipping was not always immediate. Customers sometimes complained about long waits in obtaining pre-paid wines, and those delays could reportedly stretch into years. As recently as last fall, customers filed lawsuits against the vendor, alleging that fraud and misrepresentation had taken place, suggesting that Premier Cru had not met obligations of sale in late shipments of purchased wine.

Some of the people who sued and others who turned up in court papers were owed millions of dollars of wine they had paid for "pre-arrival". That is, the 70 million in debt is mostly wine owed to customers.

(from another article)
Quote
Three months after Wong filed suit, Lawrence Wai-Man Hui, a Hong Kong collector, filed his own complaint against Premier Cru in a federal court in San Francisco. Between 2011 and 2014, Hui claims, he paid more than $981,000 for 1,591 bottles of wines, mainly top-tier Bordeaux, of which ?far fewer than 100 bottles? ever arrived. Premier Cru ?has had the benefit of almost $1 million of Hui?s money while Hui has received essentially nothing in return,? reads the complaint, which accuses the retailer of fraud and misrepresentation.
"Be useless, so no one can use you."
