Dude...Shudder to Think did a tour this year...get your gun!!!

Most apropos band name ever.  The mere mention of Craig Wedren's voice is enough to make me seize.

In 1995/96 you could see:
Jonathan*Fire*Eater (or however the fuck you spell that)/Firewater/Skeleton Key/New Wet Kojak

or in Columbus you could see:
My Whitebread Mom/A Planet for Texas/Pet UFO/Monster Truck 5

Vitapup

as a west coast guy, you're ability to namedrop vitapup is amazing. they kind of summarized this entire east coast young riot grrl early dumbo movement in a way which i don't think anyone who isn't from northern new jersey or didn't go to college with at least one queer girl who did a zine from northern new jersey could really understand. i tip my hat.

Well, I did actually see that band live at 924 Gilman. That was one of the more laughably bad shows I ever saw. I got conned into going because the girl that I had a long complicated living-my-life-on-hold-'til-you-figure-out-your-sexuality sorta time-wasting mutual-crush-that-must-never-be-acted-upon wanted to go. She was a huge fan of anything Sleater Kinney- or Team Dresch-related, and Vitapup had some gal that drummed in one or both of those bands for a while. Marci Martinez? So, I drove that car there an inch off the ground loaded with riot-grrls-come-latelies. I felt like Vitapup woulda been good if it were a high school talent show, but I was kinda embarrassed for them.

Sicko/Ultra Bide/Psycho Sin/Garden Variety

glad to hear that some of your bad musical choices were the result of unrequited lust.  my past is littered with such folly (see Jeff Buckley thread).

Archers of Loaf was the biggest piece of shit I saw live in that era I think. I actually owned the first cd, liked it ok (i was young+dumb)... they were playing on my 21st birthday so i figured, fuck it, this will be a decent way to spend my 21st birthday. i was SO PISSED at how bad they were, Fuck You for ruining my 21st birthday, assholes.

Catched them around the same time I guess. Exactly the same experience. Saw a lot of indierock bands who toured Europe around the early & mid 90s. Archers Of Loaf were by far the worst. Got fond memories of concerts w Pavement, Superchunk, Small 23, Sebadoh & Yo La Tengo though. Still a fan of certain parts of all mentioned bands discographies except Small 23. Guess Superchunk is my indierock guilty pleasure
