Inputting new data is easy. Just need to pay attention to the format. Once you get it down you can list a new release really fast. I think it takes me 2 minutes to do a LP from scratch.

Can anyone explain the value of telling someone on Discogs that something they entered is wrong rather than just going in and changing it? Shit like, "Tracklisting should only be labeled A and B, not A1 and B1." It seems like the amount of time it takes telling someone to fix something takes longer than just fixing it.

Just curious.

if you change it yourself, if at some point in the future someone gives it an incorrect vote, the vote will count against you.

i can tell you from experience, you don't want too many incorrect votes (it's something like 5), you will be put on probation without any posting/editing capabilities except on your own contributions. even if you fix stuff right away, you have to wait for months for someone to actually vote on your shit. it took about 8-9 months where i could literally not add anything. i posted a few times on the "request votes" forum thread, etc. etc. etc..

i guess they do it that way so some newbie can't go on a rampage changing and adding incorrect information, but there aren't enough people voting on stuff, it's a pretty frustrating experience. i know they encourage voters to stick within their genres of expertise, and some voters are scared to even vote on stuff because if someone else votes it incorrect in the future, the vote will count against the voter along with the contributor.

Yes, the who CIP (Contributor Improvement Program) is fucked. I got placed on it once. Took me forever to get off and then once I got off, someone slammed me back in. It took me about two weeks of corresponding with one of the main dudes to establish that the fucker giving me incorrect votes was out for me because I disputed that S.S. releases were "limited editions." There is a hell of a lot of piss fighting going on there. While it takes a bit to figure out the formatting and rules, it takes a bit longer to work out the unwritten rules and pecking order.

Never knew about any of that voting stuff. Seems silly.

I've never sold there before but am considering it. Do you think it's worth it to list the unsold stuff from my set sale on it? Or just the stuff that is a bit more valuable?

Have to say that the folks who run it are okay. They are very responsive to sellers, so much so it is like the anti-ebay in that regard. Had some foreign asshole who ordered a bunch of shit from me, express/insured. He got his crap but had to pay customs. Tried to shake me down for money, I said no; so he left me neg feedback saying I sent to wrong address (his paypal address) and he had to pay customs. Contacted discogs and in two days the feedback was gone. Never would have happened with ebay.

I just went to add the most recent Golden Error 7" and I can't find how to get it started, for some reason (prob cuz I'm dumb).

First thing I've ever tried to add. Also, just posted a slight correction to info for GE 12". First time for that too; people vote on it?

It's hard to say. Look a few of them up on there and if like 50 people are selling the same thing it probably won't be worth it. Unless you sell it super cheap or something.

Ahhhh...makes sense. Thanks.

I think it's totally worth it. Better to have it listed there for sale than just sitting around. They don't take much of a cut and it's all around be a breeze selling and buying.

True, true. My response up there was assuming he wanted to sell them somewhat quickly. Definitely can't hurt to list them - especially since listing is super quick on discogs. Just don't expect stuff like the Best of Blondie & Blizzard of Oz to move too quickly.

Kid, see this link here:

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Golden+Error

That's everything Golden Error has "done". On the left is a link: "Add Release". That will open a new form for you to add the record, and the bonus is since you are linking from the BAND page it will automatically be part of their overall discog.

Only works if someone has already created a BAND page.

Fuck, I didn't see that "Add Release" thing. There's a lotta things on those pages. Thx.

As far as selling on Discogs - super-easy, but yeah, not if you wanna sell something quick. You can get some stupid prices and I price my shit way under what most people do (and thus it sells occasionally). Haven't had much up for awhile, but added some stuff today.

would maybe cut a deal for some Termbros but no guarantees.

It's good to know that discogs sorts out foreign assholes, I'll be using them for sure.

I think mostly because you're only supposed to edit a record if you own it (or otherwise have it in front of you.)  Doesn't stop me from making these kinds of edits where needed.
