When someone more privileged, such as Ariel Pink, records his stuff lo-fi it is a conscious effort to sound that way, and therefore comes off as somewhat contrived.

not to take sides but that can be applied to anything where consideration has been put into the recording.

You're also the spitting image of this dude in Seattle whose nickname is "King Penguin McFaggotty". Should I go on?

Yeah, but I guess the point here is that Ariel Pink is purposely marginalizing his resources in order to recreate a sound whereas Kevin doesn't have that much of an option and his music is therefore a more honest depiction of who he is.

obviously we need to have a benefit so that kevin can record the next pink reason album with nigel goodrich and stop the pink reason vs ariel pink argument which shouldn't exist in the first place.

There is no Pink Reason vs. Ariel Pink argument. The post in question which some people are trying to derive an argument from is an explanation for feelings that I had quite some time ago (we're talking multiple years in the past) which were brought up by someone else.

The next Pink Reason album is being recorded in a studio with nice equipment, big amps and a live backing band. I am not joking. My track on the upcoming World's Lousy With Ideas comp was also recorded under similar conditions.

So I take it you like Ariel Pink...

doesn't matter.  i think he's okay.  i like the song "jules lost his jewels" a lot.  your logic is annoying and irrational.  being interested in and inspired by an artist's living/ working conditions is one thing.  demanding that they meet arbitrary lifestyle requirements before they can make the sounds they wanna make is fucking gay.

I'm not demanding that he does anything. I'm not saying that if he was shit poor and recorded in the same manner it would be any better. What I have stated is simply a matter of personal opinion. I'm not laying down any laws that state that Ariel Pink absolutely sucks dick (save the sarcastic remark I made to you previously). I personally do not listen to his music, but that is a choice I have made based on what I have heard by him and not based on his decision to record lo-fi when he has better resources. I could give a shit if anybody else here listens to him. It's their choice.

If you listen to "Can't hear my eyes", and compare the production to his earlier releases then you will hear a huge difference. I don't think resources should even come into the equation - it doesn't matter if you live in a mansion or on a council estate, if your influences are the likes of turkish psych, italo-disco, and mutant-sounds downloads, then you would hardly expect him to create something so well produced himself.
