the comp's got it listed as harry johnson, but it's the sanford clark version.  the song was covered by various folks--i think the first to record it was buddy long--the sanford clark vers. is the definitive one, i think.  easily the most sinister and hazlewood-esque.

anyone know if any of sanford clark's other records from the '67-69 era match up?  the earlier stuff is just kinda rote rockabilly that doesn't do much for me.

Sanford Clark - They Call Me Country LP is a good one. Dunno if it's a retrospective or just a straight-up LP, but it has "It's Nothing To Me" and "The Fool", amongst other gems...  Some blog had it up and I listen to it on the mp3 player at work. Hoping to get a vinyl copy someday...

Right now I'm listening to this Harumi album on Verve. Making this snowstorm seem all the more ridiculous...

Plastic Cloud - S/T: Ridiculous guitarist.  Totally over the top, and largely incongruous with the vocal harmonies and etc.  This is a good record.

I second this sentiment - We've been totally obsessed w/this record for a while now... did you actually find a copy?? Or is it a download?

I wish!  Just a download.  Combing through the second edition of the Acid Archives...

I passed on the Plastic Cloud reissue when it was around.  You're right, the lead guitarist is incredible.  Thought the songs were sort of spotty, like it didn't cohere so well.  The Acid Archives loves it, though.

Milk Music, Beyond Living DL
Nice record of well made, tuneful guitar rock that sounds like an indie record from '91 or thereabouts, like it coulda shared shelf space with... I dunno, Treepeople.  I don't care about this sort of thing personally, but it's certainly "accomplished" for what it is.

Crazy Spirit s/t DL
So enjoyable, these krazy kidz with their puke rock.  I would like to own a copy of this EP on vinyl.

Autechre, Draft 7.30
Survived the past decade with its dignity intact.  Still a mindbender, a jigsaw puzzle, a masturpiece of process if not exactly an enjoyable end-product.  This twisted my brain into a knot when I played it in the early hours of a Wednesday morning in '03 after a night-long vision quest / psychotherapy session.

The Rebel, The Race Against Time Hots Up DL
EXCELLENT!  The best Rebel record I've heard.  The songs are packed with ideas and immensely catchy.  I urge you to purchase this record and maybe buy a spare for me, as I do not yet own it.

Pink Reason, Shit in the Garden

This Heat, s/t

I did not pass on that Plastic Cloud reissue and am so happy that I didn't.  Loy, something tells me that if you spent some more time with it you'd really warm up to it.  Such a great record.

Yesterday I heard that Milk Music record and my comment was:  the children of Unwound.

Today so far:
Dirtbombs - Party Store
Original Sins - Skeletons From the Garage
Blues Control - S/T
AC/DC - Black Ice

Definitely worth grabbing if the reissue crossed my path. Big fan.

Reading Rainbow - Prism Eyes [meh?]
The Go - Instant Reaction
Tony Conrad w/ Faust - Outside the Dream Syndicate
