that was 8 years ago, almost a decade ... that's like a century in pop culture years.

but I'm pretty sure that I'd enjoy The Cold Vein now.  it was just such a particular, idiosyncratic style, I actually thought it was sounding a little dated even 2 years after the fact ... but I think it would totally sound futuristic again at this point.

when I first heard it I didn't do any drugs at all and I STILL thought my head was gonna explode.

holy shit, that's a good soundtrack for the next time I trip.

My hip-hop knowledge is about 6 years out-of-date, but...

Quasimoto, The Unseen is a super whacked-out and stony record with great jazz samples.

Group Home is awesome--they were Gang Starr proteges (I think they guest on Hard to Earn) that never really went anywhere:

I mentioned the Slaughterhouse LP, but the single is a winner for cover art:

I saw Slick Rick with Doug E. Fresh and the Biz right when he got out of jail. Dude got fat and the promoter must have lost a mountain of money--I think there were a couple hundred people at The Paramount (which is a 2300 capacity venue). The Great Adventures of is obviously a classic, but The Art of Storytelling is pretty great too. I can't get myself to ride the skateboard.

Lastly, Seattle needs some sort of representation in this thread.

Yeah, the EPs after the first record were definitely weak and they're by no means standout MCs, but I think Livin' Proof is generally overlooked.

Speaking of BCC, does anyone like Sean Price? He is 1/2 of Heltah Skeltah who I've never really listened to but his solo stuff is awesome, I think he is my favorite modern rapper. He's similar to Guilty Simpson (mentioned earlier in the thread) but much better and funnier. Both of his albums are sweet and the 'Master P' mixtape is good although has too many guests.

Sixtoo's good.  Also good in a similar vein is DJ Signify.
