The "gateway to reggae" thing would make sense except that Sublime is better than any actual reggae.

The under 26 thing is true I think, the Sublime cover band I was gonna have with my friends was predicated on the fact that everyone of our generation listened to Sublime at one point and would want to hear their songs in a bar.

For the damage this would do to one's stomach lining with bile, there would be alot of boring pussy involved.

This thread is making my brain hurt.  Seriously think it's time to take a page from Young Steve's book and basically depart Termbo, save for the occasional post shilling upcoming White Wires and Fratricide records.  That is, if anyone here even likes punk rock by the end of the summer.

WRONG.

To trash Reggae is practically to trash Otis Redding or Fela Kuti or any kind of killer soul music.  Lame.

Have you ever heard Mikey Dread or Alton Ellis or Jackie Mittoo?

...although I will say that Sublime probably never heard any 'reggae' that was made before the mid 70s, it doesn't seem possible for a band with that much negative soul to be into such legit stuff.

I've always hated Sublime for their absolutely abysmal cover of "Hope" by the Descendents, one of my favorite songs of my youth (and a song I still love to this day). They couldn't even get the fucking lyrics right!

I may be too old, but to me, every Sublime song sounds like this diet coke ad:
