"The Rat" is a great song, there is one other really good song on that Walkmen album, can't remember the name...most of it was pretty whatever though.

They had a big 1/2 page spread in NYC's Metro today (free daily paper).  Says the show on Saturday is SOLD OUT.  Sorry folks!

Edit: nevermind, the sold out show is in Allston, MA.  I assumed it meant here.

around the time the walkmen song the rat came out i was in a band that recorded at the sick studio they used to own up in harlem.  the first thing i did was play that drum beat loud as shit on their drum set and the engineer immediately told me to stop.  that song rules.

this record is a total guilty pleasure of mine.  It's like a much less good, American elvis costello record, with the exception of the first song.

Pitchfork referred me to this new Flaming Lips video with the promise that it was even worse than the Girls video!

It's actually a rather good video -- coulda been ripped out of a Jodorowsky film -- and I'm pleased to find that bush is alive and well among the 18 - 30 demographic.  The song's not bad either, surprisingly.

Anyway, I can understand some people's complaints here, but to just say the song is bad? That's kinda bullshit. It's really not that far off from stuff people here like, like Thomas Function, or Strokes, but I feel like it's got more of an "old" or classic feel than that stuff. The production on the song is pretty amazing. That weird pump organ sounding solo in the middle is pretty great too.

Honestly, this song has been playing in my head non stop for a couple of days now. It's so fucking catchy. I'm seriously disappointed the rest of their stuff sounds like what it does, otherwise I'd be happy to join in on the hype with whoever else is hypin' this shit.

Agree completely. Was passed along a copy of the single and CD from Matador friends and I was afraid to play it for a good month. Finally listened to it and loved "Lust for Life". It's been in and out of my head for weeks. The rest I could do without, but I'm not embarrassed to admit that I like this song. Getting upset about that harmless video is lame as well.

I actually think the "dirty edit" Lust For Life video is really great. I think it's one of the better videos I've seen in quite a while. It's not reinventing the wheel by any means, but I still think it looks great.

Totally. It's funny how much a little full frontal male nudity offends people. I mean the boob-dick ratio is still in the guys' favor here.

I just watched it again.  Fuck it -- that's a good video.  The sweetness is a good foil for the melancholy of the song.  It's cute that he got gay couples to act it out, and it's cool of him to open the song with "I wish I had a boyfriend / I wish I had a loving man in my life / I wish I had a father," even though the dude is straight, from what I understand.

I've gone from finding the video cloying and annoying to having the song stuck in my head for a week to really liking both the song and the video.  It kind of redeems this otherwise shitty band.

That's the thing. I find the video really endearing. I mean, I know it's got cock and boobs in it, but there is something really sweet and innocent about it all. The combo that song and video form is is a total knockout and while that knockout could be a cheap shot I pick up a sincerity in it that scratches that from the ticket.

I kinda wish that song and video made a good band on it's own, but unfortunately it doesn't. The rest of the stuff I've heard really does nothing for me, and the other videos, including the PG version of Lust For Life I find really annoying at best. It's pretty easy to ignore at least though.

Funnily enough Tina and I were seriously considering checking this band out when they were here last week or whatever based simply upon our response to the video. We probably made the right choice staying home though.

This song totally redeems pizza in pop music though, at least briefly during the two minutes of that song at least.

I WISH I HAD A PIZZA AND A BOTTLE OF WINE

I really love the way that he's able to take a lyric so trite and make me feel something for it. It's really brilliant. I dunno if it's the delivery or what, but it works.

When the lust for life 7inch came out may 2008, i found myself singing that one line from the song and became a little addicted to it. Like you say, it`s probably in the delivery.

It took a hell of a long time for this band to finally get an album out. Feels like that 7inch came out 5 years ago.
