OK sorry in advance for the rant but its not like anyone here has a monopoly on this sort of music. Who do you think works at most of these places?
I was talking to someone recently and they were kind of teasing me about living in Williamsburg, what with the hipsters and such, and I explained to them that by moving to NY I am automatically a hipster now to many people back home simply by living in this city.
Another good point. I caught some flak for moving to Chicago about five years ago. Typically from people who have been to Chicago maybe a dozen times in their lives -- half of those trips for Bears games, shopping excursions in Wrigleyville, the Blackout, etc. Same shit happened when I moved to Brooklyn. "Hey, I've been to Times Square twice and hate the Yankees. NEW YORK SUCKS!"
I like fielding questions from family back home about living here. They apparently think every night here is comparable to the end-scenes of
Taxi Driverand
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls -- ON ACID. No one knows a damn thing.
The word "hipster" is defined differently in the Midwest. It means very little in Chicago, whereas it means exactly nothing in Williamsburg.
