Stunned.  and yet ... kind of not surprised.  not because of anything specific, some people just seem like they're not made for old age.

Well put.

This just makes me feel unsettled and sad. RIP

And, despite the haters, Jay was never anything but nice to me.

me too.

He was really unnecessarily mean to me and everyone last time I talked to him, but I'm not at all glad to hear this news. I still looked forward to every new release. RIP.

This is a bummer. He was always nice to me, too. Crashed at my place when his bands played GB (until he had the jing to spring for a motel) and we'd always hit up Taco Burrito Mexico the next day. He made some of the best records of the era. RIP.

This is so strange. I feel bad for his family ands friends coz it sucks to lose a loved one but I still couldn't stand the guy's whole persona. LOVED his music (besides the matador stuff, but thats only a drop in the bucket) but his personality seemed really shitty.

A tragic loss. For me, like so many on here, the guy truly defined the last decade and he had an amazing ability to re-define his own sound, one that wil be sorely missed. My heart goes out to his family and friends most of all.

Most of the times I saw Jay there was a fair share of shit talking on both sides, and the Slippery Slopes tour last summer half of our between song banter was really bad Jay Reatard jokes.  However, I believe the shit talking was for the most part in good fun and even if not the last few times I saw him was actually relatively free of any hate on both sides.  Nonetheless thats part of what made Jay what he was and such a fun target.  His arrogant asshole attitude was what made you love him, and I really had nothing but respect for the guy because no matter how shitty he could seem he was never anything other than himself.  A world without Jay Reatard seems like a little emptier of a place.  This news really makes me sad.  R.I.P.  Carrot top. I sure wish you could post on here from the other side.  I'd like to hear what Jay has to say about all this.
