The first time Jay played solo in Toronto and we all pitched in to get him to play an impromptu set at Adrift Skatepark remains one of the best shows I've ever seen or been involved with.  It's been a rough few days thinking about all the great times we had over the years.

My thoughts are with the Novaks, Alix, Stephen and Billy, and all his friends and family.

Anybody in Toronto is welcome to join a bunch of us at Oddfellows where we are turning our weekly perogie night into a tribute of sorts.  Jay's bandmate and friend Seth Sutton will be DJing, drinks will be flowing.

RIP

I keep wishing I was home so I could post a ton of Reatard related shows I taped. Whoever said that Jay Reatard has been around since I got into underground punk/rock and it
s weird that he won't be around anymore hit the nail on the head. I always looked forward to shows of his, in any capacity. That Persuaders set with him on third guitar is one of my favorite Blackout sets ever. Lon live his music, anyway.

They were great, that radio performance was so good. We (me & Manchovies) almost released that on CD/LP, but we were too stupid to actually pull it off. I almost had it mastered and everything. After we gave up, every time Jay would see me he would ask "Hey, hows that live LP coming?" sarcastically.

AMERICAN DREAM

YOUNG DREAMERS.

i thought jay or alicia complained it sounded bad, but that was a converted to mp3 disc--the master disc/sound/performance was pretty great if i remember correctly.  we should dig it out for the radioshow saturday.

i also had this even dumber sream to open a record store...

At some point this summer, I plan on coming to Buffalo and pouring some disposable income into that dream of yours.  Mighty Taco, anyone?

theres a Mighty Taco about 100 yards from the shop, but i will suggest a softball sized Beef on Weck from kellysKorner directly across the street.

Well, what's the latest then?

My computer usage has been erratic lately.

Seems like they're getting more serious about it? Anyone got the scoop?

It's just a procedural formality in unexpected deaths. They are "investigated" as homicide until they have evidence to prove otherwise (i.e. the autopsy report).

I don't really think there is any latest-- a minor flap a couple days ago when the "homicide" angle appeared, then that turned out to be SOP in such cases and nothing (that I'm aware of) since.  Of course, people who were closer to Jay seem to have more of a handle on the reality of the situation, but they're not talking and I can hardly blame them.

I understand that it's a standard thing. I'm not trying to be lurid. And while I doubt that somebody murdered Jay, it's not out of the realm of possibility. People get killed all the time for inscrutable reasons. It's a fucked up world.

Been in a loop since the tragic news, stayed at his Memphis house prior to Gonerfest 5 with Martin of Mig & Min Ven. Jay was a crazy motherfucker, but an extremely kind, friendly and clever human being. My thoughts go out to his friends and family. Organized a halfassed wake for Jay at a tiny Copenhagen bar thursday, and tonite my radioshow is dedicated to Jay and his legacy.

RIP. 29 is way too soon, man.

I just remembered my favourite Reatard quote. He'd just yelled at some guy who was persistently trying to sell Lugs some jewellry. He got back in the van, suddenly switched from mean mr bad Jay Reatard to smiling lovable Jay Reatard and said to me 'I'm not really an asshole, but sometimes you have to act like one'. RIP Jay
