right across the road there is this insane psychedelic grotto and a big fountain.

This grotto? Crystal Shrine. The first place I visited when I pulled in town. Gorgeous.

Isn't that next to Rufus Thomas as well?

We didn't see Rufus... but we didn't wander around, either.

We did the ceremony, which was... "for the family" as they say. But we'd burned out grieving on Saturday. Sunday was pretty brutal.

We carried the casket to the hearse, got in our cars, followed at 1 mph for about 50 yards, and did our little pallbearers bit. Didn't realize until we were there that we were next to Isaac Hayes. Whoah.

The whole thing was unreal, but we did our best to honor our Reatard, and the family cooperated. Amazing.

I believe he wanted to be remembered for his music, so I will read the requiem mass for him: remember him as a great guy, a troubled fuck up but a great guy. I?ll be spinning his records until I?m a pathetic 40 year old punk, and hopefully beyond.

A-MEN!

still stupid

i'm still in shock about this.  i mean, its weird to go to his myspace page.  it doesn't know he's dead, it's like it's waiting for him to log in again.  he last logged in on the 9th and his twitter feed is on there and his last tweet was 11 days ago.   i wonder whats gonna happen to that or will that page just stay exactly how it is forever now?  you might think "why does this guy care about jay's myspace page?" but i just think that its weird.  i've never known someone who died and had left internet business at a stand still.  should one put internet passwords in a will?
don't get me near a guitar, I'll just piss you off.

i went to see sudden here a night or two before he died in nyc.    super nice guy...didnt seem overly fucked up.

I've seen so many of my friends lose their lives to drugs one way or another in the last 20 years.

Don't forget about the ones who are losing lives due to drinking.. Found out last week that an old friend died (kidney/liver failure) .. another good friend is (knowingly) drinking himself to death.
