Favorite Brooklyn Diners
« on: January 22, 2010, 11:23:49 AM »
So hit or miss...

The closest diner to my apartment in Gowonus is New College Restaurant. It's... not good. Daisy's, about 10 blocks away, is solid though. The Donut House in Carroll Gardens is decent too.

Which diners do you like, which do you hate?

I live in Park Slope, so brunch spots dominate over classic "diners". There's Bonnie's Grill on 5th Ave @ 1st. It's decent and reasonably priced and serves burgers, chili, wings and stuff like that. People in the ahem.. nabe... go crazy for it. There's always a line.

When I lived in Long Island City it was all about the Court Square Diner.  Depending on what you order the food ranged from ok to great and the 24-hour delivery (with no delivery minimum) was awesome.  And they'd get it to me in like 5 minutes.   So if say, I wanted a chocolate milkshake and a slice of apple pie at 4 am.... voila! there it was!

I'd like to clarify that I have never actually eaten at Neptune diner but I enjoy looking at it en route to Laguardia. I did eat at the worst Mexican restaurant ever--even worse than the one I ate at in Germany--and it is about 2 blocks from LGA.

This should be a best Long Island Diner thread. They got some good diners out that way.

I puked off of Court Square Diner. Milkshakes at 4am are good and all, but that place kinda sucks.

Best diner is this place next to Tower 2012 in Clevo. Filling breakfast for 2.50.

I can also vouch for the place in Cleveland, wish I could remember the name.

I used to hit Daisy's hard back when I lived in "South Slope".

No good diners near me, which bums me out cuz I love nothing more than some eggs and corned beef hash when i'm hung over.

A Few Faves:

Toms Diner (Really kind of the best. Tough to top it.)
Jimmys Diner (Great menu items that don't exist anywhere else. Key Lime Pie Milkshake with an actual slice of Key Lime Pie IN the shake!)
Acapulco (Mexican Diner in Greenpoint. I just have a soft spot for it.)
Grand Morelos (Mexican Diner that is open 24 hours. Great 4AM torta.)
Diner / Relish (Fancy shithole Williamsburg diners. Heirloom Tomato Salads, Macaroni and Cheese, Veggie burgers and Kentucky Milkshakes)
Some Cuban Diner on Vanderbilt and Bergan (Great Cuban Sandwich, and other Cuban delights.)

Listening to Sigur Ros and eating a cheeseburger makes for a truly cinematic experience.
