They did the floor in the second room at Dry River and re-wired it...
so its a good lease to have.

As far as their booking?

The new Skrappy's is taking all their shows so DR will limp along
as a homeless outreach until they close or someone smart moves in...

I don't understand this continued taking over the lease deal...no one smart would do that because the dunderheads that run dry river wouldn't relinquish control of it enough to be beneficial.

It'd be like Double Zero all over again where the owner tries to find an idiot to pay all the bills but still wants to "manage" it. If you were able to "manage" it in the first place you wouldn't need someone to take over paying the bills for you.

They'll just find some other gullible person to believe in their mission statement and pay their way so they can play "fight the power" to their hearts content. And yes I have met at least two people who have done that already, before they realized what these kids are about and said fuck em.

james doesnt work at eastside. Eastside still has a ton of good used stuff, you just have to be a regular to get any of it because it goes really fast. Revolver is just about as good now that JR has a say in what they buy, but the other buyers are pretty good as well. They had a septic death LP on the wall for a while but it was $150 which i doubt anyone in arizona will pay. Its been on the wall for a while now.

The manor closed at the end of May when we all moved out, so it doesnt do shows anymore. Houses still in action are YOBS, The tribe, the cockpit and XNA. Theres also warehouse spaces (slurp, sound kontrol). The nile does some stuff but not really anything that cool unless its a Genz or Gerson show.

websites for phoenix / tempe shows are

blatantlocalism.net
cityslaang.com
theslurpaz.blogspot.com
mantoothgroup.com

probably more but cant think of em.

theres some good stuff coming up but more importantly a handful of new bands that are all really good. Nightgaun, Loves Pendulum, Gay Kiss, Avon Ladies, Destruction unit (yeah they're old but its a new sound and new members) have played a few shows each, and some others that haven't played yet (christian fiction, new band ex-naive, new band ex-pigeon religion, etc). Excited for the next few months.

Yeah, Revolver's really impressive.  I always find good shit there, even though I only go about twice a year.  Their dollar bins are pretty good too, esp. if you're visiting from the East Coast.  I've found nice dollar copies of Emitt Rhodes s/t twice.  Twice?!

Also, Stinkweeds is as lame as ever but it's worth a peek every now and again 'cos they misprice used shit all the time 'cos they don't know what they've got).  Also, they sometimes order new shit seemingly at random and it languishes there for months, so if you're looking for an OOP record you can sometimes find it there gathering dust.  Idjits.

I'm taking the light rail to Revolver tomorrow.  Anything else worth checking out in the area by foot or rail?  Good eats?  Might as well stop for lunch somewhere too.  Hope shit doesn't suck because it's Sunday.

I just picked up a turntable from Eastside Records and a set of speakers (that I hope will function) from Goodwill.  Need a receiver.  Any places to find them used in Tempe or the surrounding area?  Eastside had one but wanted $150.  Goodwill and Gracie's had nothin'.  Will scope out a few more thrift locations tomorrow.

Eastside Records closing soon http://terminal-boredom.com/forums/index.php?topic=29819.0

It's gone now.  They had cooler shit than Zia.  I'll have to make a trip to the Phoenix branch of Bookman's and a place called Stinkweeds that I hear is good.  Revolver is a cool store but they don't have much of what I'm looking for.  Got a receiver there, though.  My old man is mailing speaker wire and I'll be back in business.
