My first girlfriend bought me a copy of that Birdman anthology with the grey cover in 2001. She was going to a record store out of town, and I told her to pick it up if she spotted it. Weird to think that was 20 years ago, and that the band itself was from 40 years ago. And the band's name is a reference to a song from FIFTY years ago. Time fucking flies, man.

not sure if this ones been mentioned on here before. 'breaking a monster' a slick fly on the wall style doco about three black tweens who form a metal band called 'unlocking the truth'. they get 'discovered' after uploading footage to y/tube of themselves busking at times square. i stumbled upon this on the free to air indigenous channel here in aus last wk. fucking hated this at first. was revolted and could not stomach it all, but there was fuck all else on so went back to it and then got hooked. a cautionary tale of everything thats wrong about with the music biz. old white well to do music svengali type finds talented impressionable kids ready to mould. sends them off to various 'experts' to get uniformed up and tutored in the art of sucking. signing a 1.8 milion dollar contract with sony music a long the way.

spoiler alert****

turns out these kids, especially malcom the singer gtr player dude are not so easily moulded.

That looks great...I remember seeing the original vids of them. Certainly instructive viz. the current state of the music biz...After the Screaming Stops definitely deals with teen idols also, so I'll link the trailer for the lazy...

Watching The Rumble on PBS, story of Native American Music. Only twenty minutes in but pretty good so far. It's streaming for free on their site.

It's a film about the band Voice of Addiction from Chicago. I really enjoyed it. It's on Amazon Prime or was at the time of writing this  :P

Better Than Something: Jay Reatard (full film)

It's back up. It was on there a few years ago (before the DVD was released I think) for a short while and then got taken down. Who knows how long it'll last this time.
