PS,.....  dont worry much about the 15 feet thingy.  i smoke every day outside of a door with a huge sign that says "do not smoke within 15 feet of this door" along with about 15 other people all day!  even the dick cops that roll thru the parking lot just to look for expired tags don't say shit.  so that means its even a lame ticket inside the eyes of an already dick-ish cop.  so its time tested here.  no worries there.  the only thing that blows smegma dicks is the fact that it sucks to drink and have to go outside to smoke.

whats a chicken party??

the one we go to has karaoke on the weekends and you can smoke wherever you want. no cover but no shows either.
also, any drink there no matter what it is, 3 bucks.

the secret is out though and now its got a little too crowded for my taste.

The new ordinance "also prohibits smoking in ... and within 15 feet of business doorways." (i.e. standing in the middle of the street).

Wasn't it something like 30 feet in Davis? They did that back in 1994 or so. The ultimate nanny state is Davis. You can't even change a lighting fixture in your bathroom or put a pre-built TUFF SHED in your backyard without a city inspector approving it.

There's a Volvo 240 DL wagon in Davis with a "DAVIS: FIRST SMOKE-FREE CITY" bumper sticker on the back right balanced by a "DAVIS: FIRST PRO-CHOICE CITY" sticker on the left.

Ah, so it's 20 feet in Davis. This is from the ordinance....

Quote
(x)Smoking shall be prohibited in the following outdoor areas, and smoking, except while passing on the way to another destination, shall be prohibited within twenty feet of or close enough to the following areas for smoke to travel into an area or building, where smoking is prohibited, whichever is greater;

the 'chicken party' is some kind of a private party that some friends have been doing for somewhere around a decade (my 1st was this year)

it's just that.  chicken and other food, and beer kegs.   i guess it's $10 for everyone, but like i said it was my 'payment' so i didn't have to pay...

especially if you cant take your drink on the sidewalk (i think thats a law here) or your 4/5 dollar beer has to go into a plastic cup

I wonder if someone's private patio is within 15 feet of a business entry way......what then, SF?

So say goodbye to smoking on the patios of The Hemlock, Parkside, El Rio, etc...

Whoops...guess it's OK at places like that.

someone should find that wagon and slap a "KEEP DAVIS BORING" sticker right in the middle.

Yeah, you're right. There were a lot of rumors floating around, but eventually that was not part of the ordinance

Illegal it seems. but again, never will be enforced, unless you live in yuppie-ville and your patio is next to some bistro.

I smoke cigs by doorways when cops go by and only ever once got a ticket for smoking, but that was because it was on a high school campus.
