I went to La Superior for the first time the other night.

Was impressed by the carnitas taco, was blown away by the fish quesadilla... "street style"- fried in an empanada  type pocket with some pico type stuff, super awesome.

Try the Garlic Shrimp taco, its one of the specials.

Also: The PIBIL. Best fish dish in the area.

Went to La Superior for a birthday party a couple weeks ago and I agree that it was pretty good.  I had a taco w/ sauteed mushrooms and garlic that was yummy.  I'll have to try the shrimp one next time.

This place is byob which is cool, except they yelled at us and wouldn't let us drink the 2 liter of Coke we brought to mix with the Pisco that Kevin brought back from Chile to share with everybody.  I guess I understand since they do sell Mexican Coke there, but those bottles are so tiny that we would have had to order a million of them to have enough mixer for the whole table.

Sabor A Mexico II (233 E 77th) is a regular stop after museums/etc in that neighborhood.

lots of people on the mexican border don't believe there could possibly be good mexican food in NYC, Wisconsin, or California.

hey man, where there's mexicans, there's mexican food.
it's all bullshit, and it's bad for ya.

The tacos at Tulcingo (5520 5th Ave in Sunset Park, Brooklyn) were great. I ate there the last time I was visiting my buddy in Brooklyn. Barbacoa and Al Pastor tacos were killer. They also have decent Tacos Arabes.

But the real reason to go there is the Cemitas! We can't even get those things in the Bay Area. In the world of the Mexican sandwich: Cemitas>Tortas

I love a good pambazo, but that shit is tricky to make. The margin for error is greater than with a cemita, due to the sauce they dip the bread in. I've had some pambazos that were abominations. That sandwich should be left to the professionals.

of course...and with the more mexicans in a place the quality goes up and the margin for error goes down

notice I said GOOD, not just food

There ain't nothing stupider than listen to someone argue about how you can only get good Mexican food near the border, especially when the argument is coming from someone who has never been to the places they're saying there is not good Mexican food, doubly so when the people arguing on the side of reason have been tried all the options and are the only ones capable of making a judgement on the subject.

So shut it.

Speaking of which, had a Latin (non-Mexican) friend take me out for some sick ass tacos in Chicago recently. Had no idea they had such good tacos there. Rivaled the best stuff I've found in LA and totally destroyed any I've had in WI.
