I will say that the best Mexican place in Pittsburgh may be Qdoba. Pittsburgh has really sub par mexican food.

^^Makes sense.  Chicago has a huge Mexican population.  The Mex food there's supposed to be really good but I've never been.

RIP   matamoros on bedford ave

I miss this place too.  They also stocked all kinds of Mexican goodies -- candies, chips, sodas, dry goods.

My gripe with Mexican food in the Northeast is that it's all Southern-style b/c most Mexicans here are from Guerrero, Puebla, and the State of Mexico (all in the south).  The food along the US/Mex border is generally Sonoran style, which is pretty different.  I've had great tortas and tacos in NYC, but I have yet to find a decent (Sonoran style) enchilada anywhere north of Virginia.

Matamoros was the shit.

I've had some really good burritos in Chicago.

This discussion is even more snooze-worthy than the hardcore thread. Just shove it in your mouth and shut up.

There ain't nothing stupider than listen to someone argue about how you can only get good Mexican food near the border, especially when the argument is coming from someone who has never been to the places they're saying there is not good Mexican food, doubly so when the people arguing on the side of reason have been tried all the options and are the only ones capable of making a judgement on the subject.

So shut it.

Speaking of which, had a Latin (non-Mexican) friend take me out for some sick ass tacos in Chicago recently. Had no idea they had such good tacos there. Rivaled the best stuff I've found in LA and totally destroyed any I've had in WI.

well first I'm not saying the best is from the border, only the best you can get in the US

and really you've had mexican food in Nogales, and Tucson? when were you here?

I've had mexican food in Wisconsin...it's why when I go to Wisconsin I'll eat cheese curds and kringle and frozen custard and the shit Wisconsin knows how to do good

and you yourself are claiming LA has better mexican food then Wisconsin...that is a death knell

keep trying though

Plus, you can get a cemita in Chicago. In the Bay Area, even with 10 taco/burrito stands on some blocks, you cannot get a cemita anywhere.

Very little southern mexican or border-style stuff here. It's mostly Sinaloa/Michoacan-style.
