Keeping original vs. reissue
« on: April 12, 2010, 04:33:52 PM »
I'm at a point, money-wise, where I can't keep both the original and reissue of an album; need to trim down and such.  However, I'm at a loss of which is the best sell.  If I keep the original it appreciates but I listen to it so it depreciates.  Kinda depends on how much demand there is at a later date.  Selling the reissue means I get hardly any money, maybe as much as I paid for it, but it's unlikely it will appreciate as the years wear on.

Ideally, it'd be keep them both and only listen to the reissue but ain't gonna happen.  I mean, what's the real-life chance of a bear market in this kind of economical windfall?  Discuss.

Re-issues always seemed sorta of a retarded collecting thing to me. Sure they will appreciate but for a feeling of getting the real thing, you gotta go original. Always. And if you wanna listen to the stuff, try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3.

I've always had a problem with this too. Like, DEVO. I have all of the originals, yet I'm still tempted to buy the color reissues. Why? Or the Sonic Youth reissues that are going to happen. I don't know if I feel I need to collect them, or I'm looking for better sound quality. But I still NEED the original. What the hell is wrong with me?
