best 00's "mainstream" indie band?
« on: April 17, 2010, 02:08:29 PM »
inspired by the mgmt thread i guess. counting "mainstream" as stuff in the animal collective/shins/modest mouse/arcade fire category of fame.

personally i'd say the strokes. "is this it" is definitely one of the best albums of the last decade, even if it sounds like a car commerical.

I love the Strokes, but I wouldn't even consider them indie at all.

I'd say The Shins or Yo La Tengo.

i mostly based that on the fact that they're pretty popular with that crowd... or at least here they are

That's not what you were saying over at the Pitchfork forums.

No, come on, this is a good thread.  It's a GOOD THREAD.

My pick: The Mars Volta, Shenanigans at the Fucky Farm, LP/CD/MC (2000-U).

this is a bad time for mainstream indie. i would have said animal collective a couple years ago but their recent stuff is sorta gay.
