I think it really depends on how your records are stored. If you file LPs like books on shelves, with spine facing out, then unquestionably it has to be top open. If there's a shelf above, then no dust will fall inside. Plus, then when you pull em out, the sleeve won't come off (I hate when other people file them with side open and the record and everything gets separated the next time you pull it out.)

BUT... 7"s, which I, like most other sane people, have stored in boxes, I file side-open. For one, if you have the boxes uncovered, then all the dust would fall right in the top of the open sleeve. Two, if you're flipping through from the top, the open sleeves get battered (I remember at the radio station, all the covers were thrashed at the top from fingers going into the sleeve). Plus, since most older 7" sleeves open from the top, having the plastic sleeve open on the side protects them better.

Funny thread.

EXACTLY.

I don't even know if the purpose of the clear plastic record sleeves is to avoid dust or more to prevent covers from scratching, general preservation, etc., but here's the question:  Do you slip the record in them so that the opening of the plastic is on top, or to the side?  any difference for LP's as opposed to 7''s?

Dear idiot,

I just deleted your account. Why? Because you are responsible for the stupidest post in the history of Termbo. I hesitated for a moment because you did post a link to the Four  Eyes debut tape, but even the power of the Four Eyes was not enough to save you. And it wasn't just that the above is moronic that got you tossed out of here. It is my fear that your future posts will become even more banal. Examples:

I like to season my food. But I have a question: Should I put the salt on before the pepper or pepper before salt?

For years I have put on one sock and then one shoe. I am thinking of going with both socks on first and then the shoes. What do you all think?

This is a bit awkward but perhaps you can help: Can the penis be put into the vagina when it is still soft?

I find it crazy that GOD backwards is DOG. Have any of you noticed this before and if so, what do you think?

Sorry, man, but I can't let that happen. I would say I am saving you from yourself but that would be a lie. The truth is that I am saving me from you.

Yrs

Funny thing, Scott, stupid random questions like those posed above pop into my head all the time, and I really have no satisfying outlet for them. Been thinking about startng a thread for them and calling it 'stupid stuff I wonder about'. Should I just go ahead and start it here?

In a perfect world, the plastic sleeve is supposed to prevent you from ever actually touching the record cover with your dirty fingers. I always thought that's how they are supposed to work. .

In a perfect world there would be no pop punk thread.

Somewhat topical.  Anyone have ideas on oversized plastic sleeves for 7"s.  I know they exist.  I have some.  Need more for those annoying big paper sleeves....or I'll have to make it out of 12" sleeves I guess........
