Flying into the MKE airport in a week (Thursday).

Flight arrives at 6, and I can't catch a badger bus until 8.

CLAIRE.  Let's go get food.

I believe the dude who booked there (GN) dropped off the face of the earth. I think his name was Andy.
that guy may have dropped off, but you CAN still book plenty of shows there. Just gotta talk to the right people around town. I know they still have shows. Just wanted to let people know that there still are shows there.

Chances are high that I'll go to that show at Mickey's on Sat night.

Any possibility that someone is going to be heading from Madison to Milwaukee that Sunday night? My flight is at around 8pm out of MKE

Awesome!
I must note that the milwaukee show with Smith Westerns and Dead Luke is only $10. Just clearing that up.

I'm driving from a completely different part of the state that day.
:\
I'm flying back that day too.

Going to be in Madison for a conference Tuesday through Saturday, what should I check out? Yelp is telling me the taxidermy museum closed, which is a real bummer. As far as record stores, looks like I'll be walking distance to Madcity, Exclusive Company, Earwax, and B-Side. What's the best? Worth making a long trek for a different store? Google search indicates The Daily Page is Madison's alt weekly, is that the best place to look for events/shows or is there a better alternative?

http://artsextract.com/ for local events is the best, though I think Daily Page (a.k.a. the Isthmus) covers most of what they have, too.

Record stores: Mad City is alright, B-Side is small and has mostly new indie releases on wax, Earwax pretty much pushes Century Media CDs to high schoolers but sometimes you can find some punk/metal gems if you go through all their wax. Exclusive Company is now closed. Strictly Discs miiight be the best spot to go. I'm burned out on it but some fresh eyes might find some cool stuff in their basement. They have the best curated new releases section here for sure.

Have a beer on the student union terrace (800 Langdon St.) if you're not averse to crowds/beer. If you know where you're staying I can help with food/drink recommendations.

Thanks for the record store rundown. I'll be staying on the UW campus and will mostly be at the Overture Center during the day.

Ah, good, you're walking distance to most of those things. Strictly Discs is a couple miles away but doable but you might be busy enough between the other record stores.

Food near the Overture Center/capital area:
Merchant, right off the capital square, is great and affordable for lunch. Fried chicken sandwich is so damn good. Good but pricey cocktails, too. Never been for dinner.

Restaurant Muramoto has really good food - Asian fusion mostly, but also great sushi if you're into that.

The Old Fashioned & the Great Dane are both serviceable brewpubs. The Old Fashioned has 40+ local brews on tap, though the wait can be awfully long for dinner. Great Dane is also a brewery, some good ones there.

Natt Spil is my favorite place for drinks in that area. Cash only. The Paradise Lounge is a pretty great dive bar, very cheap, and they've got good food. Genna's is not really noteworthy except that they have a decent-sized patio area.

State St. has City Bar for drinking (and decent food, too), Himal Chuli for Nepalese food, and lots of other shops/bars that are just OK. B-Side and Earwax are right on State.

Enjoy your trip! I'm out of the country next week, otherwise I'd offer to show ya around.

Nice recommendations (shit, I don't know a lot of those places and haven't lived there in many years), but Old Fashioned is not a "brewpub," it's a Supper Club. And it's really good, not "serviceable." Also, it's pretty uniquely "Wisconsin," or at least a tribute to it.

For an out-of-towner, make sure to check out State Street, a place that often annoys locals (so they don't recommend it), but it's a very MADISON thing. I imagine the walking traffic is down now that school's out, but it's still probably fairly lively. I see it down a ways on the list, but I'd put it fairly high if you have a good amount of time and nice weather.
