I almost brought this band's first album up in the 'fuzzy pop' thread. Doesn't deserve the post rock ghetto.

In fact, fuck any Temporary Residency band. Late to the "party."

Nero's "Dune Concept Album" is great, so is the  1st 90 day men ep

explosions in the sky got me thinking of trail of dead, who i saw play a show together. not really post rock but the first 2 trail of dead records are pretty cool! 'sister' era sonic youth worship.

That name: Sabalon Glitz (or whatever) is right on the edge of my memory. Who dat?

They did one album of Stereolab-ish drone meets Chicago-hipster-pants shit that was actually okay that I accidentally bought because of a review that described them in more cryptic terms than that...

i don't get the stereolab comparison, but they were kind of on the forefront of the "space rock" thing before there was a "there" there.  one 7" on trixie, the aforementioned CD EP, a 12" on organico and a track on the assassins of silence hawkwind tribute.  chris holmes later did yum yum, ashtar command and is from what i hear is now plugged into the hollywood music machine.  a lot of the press around sabalon probably derived from chris' hosting of a UFO-related talk show on WHPK (some of this is included as a bonus track on the CD)

This topic brings back some bad memories.  And reminds me why Chicago mostly sucks.

True. Being in Chicago that time suck. Tortoise was the sound of paint drying. That shit was over hyped.

yeah i guess if seeing great shows and buying from an avalanche of cheap, awesome records funneling through reckless meant chicago sucked, then it really sucked.  i had no problem seeing gastr open if it meant i got to see voice crack at the bottle, for instance.

there sure is a lotta post rock fans creeping out of the closet here.   started with "fuck tortoise" but now, "some of the early stuff is ok, actually."

this thread reeks of the kind of shit i hate in austin.  people trying to deny what the used to listen to, cuz they're onto some cooler stuff now.

SUCK IT UP.

you probably have some mogwai records, because it was good back then.   not lying.
will never ever listen to explosions in the sky.   godspeed, and fly pan am are legit.   i'm listening right now to a band called Paik.  killer jamz.

thinking man's metal is apt, yet a little simplistic.   what is SunnO ?  boris and melvins all traffric in the genre.  i can see people detesting it, but i also see many people in this thread covering some of their "cred" bases with post rock rejection to appease the mighty termbo aesthetic.   Ha Ha Posers.

definitely into exposing some of the shitty bands / shows people on this board care to share -  i was there - STP, Ministry, Sepultura in high school.  both ministry and sepultura were great.   people threw cups at STP.

Ugh, yeah boy/girl. Don't even know where to start. Are you seriously thinking about that kinda stuff?

Let me just say I resented TMM from day 1, ok? Hard to believe, yeah, I know. The bands you name are obviously beyond such a stupid tag and they are definitely not saving a completely fucked name of a supersucky style, no. And what do you mean with "apt"? That it fits the arrogance of the target audience? It's not descriptive. The name is arbitrary and exists just so that shopping people know what to buy.

Now go back to feeling superior.
into hard music with tyte flows and crazy screams

Out of the closet?  It's not a confessional, I just don't find most of these records that interesting in the long run & even if I did, this board's generally about other stuff.

I'm confused.  I thought this thread was exactly about "owning up to" skeletons in yr closet. I don't really believe in guilty pleasures, of any kind. The point is studs like me and Butchie can and will discuss both shitty and non-shitty examples of specific, perhaps dubious, musical genres (herein: POST ROCK) because we are so secure in out sheer fucking awesomeness that any snickering from former Weezer- current FAG COP-loving music "fans" is regarded as mere droplets from a leaky faucet; plop tink plop.

That being said:
do you guys ever get laid?

As a matter of fact, yes.

Ha, no yr right. But that was a side project of another boring post-rock band that I can't think of the name of.

Adam Pierce was in the Swirlies before he did Mice Parade.  He also did the vocals for the phone tree at Caroline Distribution in the mid-1990s.

Weird, I didn't know that. I like The Swirlies. But that's not the band I'm thinking about.

Finally, why are The Melvins being mentioned in a thread about post-rock? Think on that, manly metal men.

Double finally - Mogwai always sucked. Make fun of Slint (or Rodan, who are better) all you want, but Mogwai is a 2nd rate UK version with a bigger equipment budget. Dontcha know? Limeys can't make that kinda shit right. I thought everyone knew that.
soft? LOUD!

and yes one more thing: If I gotta put up with all of this ironic/non-ironic who-even-knows-or-cares-anymore ('sides 'gurls) City Rock/AOR sub-power pop small-cock rock bullSHIT, then you can suffer thru a 5 sentence treatise on why Laddio Bolocko is the fucking tits, dig?

Jesus: another instant tidbit

The other day I sold a copy of the first press of the Vivian Girls LP to some guy on Discogs and his email was: tortoisesucks@(whateverthehell.com). One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Many years ago, while working at a record store in the UK, a French guy called up and asked if we had "thee-uh new al-bem by-uhhh Tor-TWAAZ". Yes, I know this is how you pronounce the word in French, but it's still fucking funny.
