Pellecanos

Blows my mind how many people go on and on about how The Wire is goddamn motherfuckin' Shakespeare-o'-the-streets, when it wouldn't even exist without this "groundbreaking" television program. Some of the finest acting that has ever graced the medium. And you truly never knew what was gonna happen, who was gonna die, etc.

Neither Pelecanos nor Lehane wrote for Homicide. Pelecanos was heavily involved in The Wire as writer and producer along w Homicide bigwig David Simon. I think Lehane wrote at least one episode.

I found out about Pelecanos' fiction via a Byron Coley review in Forced Exposure.

Oh yeah, my bad; think he wrote a few Wire episodes.

Don't matter nohow; brilliant fucking show.

David Simon, co-author of excellent non-fiction book that Homicide TV show is based on, is a key figure for both productions.

Pelecanos had, I think, at least one script/story for each season of The Wire and also served as story editor and producer from first season to series conclusion.

just finished Game of Thrones season 1. I want to watch something else LIKE THAT

also watching Battlestar Gallactica, which is a great cheesy space soap. I doubt the 1978 version/namesake will be as entertaining, but i'm gonna try

got ONE episode into (not sure if it's worth continuing):

-Sons of Anarchy (annoying, feels a little like watching Heartland)
-Boardwalk Empire (maybe the first Steve Buscemi role I didn't like)
-Shameless (americanvers, with William H macy - seems reetarded)

yeah, that all makes sense, was thinking that pellecanos had gotten started with one episode of homocide, but it wasn't until the wire.  lehane was on the writing staff for the wire and did an episode

I haven't seen The Wire yet and I have tried to for so many years.

I think Homicide and The Wire are equally brilliant, but Homicide's artistic reach was hampered by major network censorship and some Neilsen Ratings pandering.

Both shows had fantastic acting with some crossover.

We're forgetting OZ, same creative team essentially, smack in the middle of those productions (crossing over into each). Pretty much they're entire "cast" (especially for The Wire) was in OZ.
