true on both counts.....Mad Men isn't good, for some reason I watched the first few seasons but after a while, I realized there's nothing really compelling about the show at all.

OZ kinda turned to shit towards the end, show had a good run for a while though

I tried. Was hoping some of the prurient thrills from Nip/Tuck would be there, but only shadows were. Some of the catty, maudlin, & grotesque elements of Nip/Tuck were amusing but just didn't flesh out properly on American Horror Story. Maybe the search for quality television is futile? I've got a friend who claims to be an expert on 19th or 20th Century French Detective stories that have a surreal bent, but I think it's an elaborate fib. Maybe I should dive into that?

American Horror Story was great! So ridiculous and over-the-top. Tons of shit happened in every episode, and you rarely see that these days. They went-for-broke.

I like it, but don't think it's brilliant (good acting and fantastic production design gloss over some of the lamer aspects).

I think television is at an all-time high re: quality. There's SO much of it. But there's some great shit; last 10 years have definitely been some sort of "Golden Age" while Hollywodd took a giant snooze/shit. Hollywood is almost pointless at this juncture.

I agree. I really liked it. They were open about their consistent use of and reference to, classic horror movie moments/theme. It was simple fun for horror fans. Maybe it wasn't totally original (or really original at all) but fuck that, it was great to watch and it was never boring. It was also nice to learn that each season will be one singular "story" which they will then drop and start a new story line come Season 2 - sort of like a season long episode of 'Tales from the Crypt.'

Also - if you haven't watched The Wire...do that.

My wife finished Season 1 of The Killing - which she SOMEHOW enjoyed without clawing her eyes out. Apparently the finale is a massive let down and she nearly threw the TV to the floor. Serves her right....dummy.

American Horror Story>Brisco County Jr>Mad Men. I disliked my viewing of that Bruce Campbell vehicle. Get yer abacus out of the compost pile before rufflin these dodo feathers. I didn't dislike American Horror Story, it was more or less looking for the surprise keybump that Nip/Tuck was early on. Being the same creative team and all.
