My next door neighbor Drew is standing with his guitar chewing gum in the background. I think it's all WI at this point (including Ben), not sure though. Liked Boogada and a few later tunes at the time, have no interest one way or another in this prolonged money grab beyond Drew/Justin and other friends assisting. this guy quit playing shows in the mid 90s, quit touring, etc when he was able to float on his band name & logo alone.... most likely it was for the better.

also, kind of agree on the 'staged' thing. after having one record label reissue his back catalog, having it recalled the same year, giving it to another label, having it recalled from them, he finally landed back on fat wreck chords who coincidentally just last tuesday released the first new screeching weasel album in eleven years (who gives a shit??), but also the same head honcho who brought us the 'cokie the clown incident' (as mentioned) at last years FAT sxsw showcase.... so yes, it does seem possibly fake. he is catching a lot of shit for this of course, however, being THAT HATED might not be so bad for the guy who begrudingly set up a 'tour' (6 cities? 7? 8?) and a three day 'fest' in his bands original hometown area.... he wanted out of the playing shows thing way back in the 90s as mentioned, and has only done a handful of shows in the past 15 years as screeching weasel. being this hated would be an easy route to go back into his live show retirement - this time forever?

You know what to expect when you throw shit at someone. People don't dig that. You want me to throw shit at you when you're behind the bar? I know plenty of people who would punch someone out for throwing ANYTHING at them when they're trying to work, unless they were their friend and it was understood that it was playful.

You don't throw shit at people in an attempt to piss them off, and then not expect them to respond violently.

One of my bands was supposed to play with Screeching Weasel in May, but because we're PC faggots or something we dropped off the show.  For what it's worth, Ben emailed us today saying he respected our decision to drop off of the show and apologized to us.

He also posted this on his blog today:

I want to apologize to both the club owner and audience member involved for my actions during our show at SXSW on Friday night. While their actions were outside of my control, my regretful reaction is wholly my responsibility. Whatever my feelings are about fans crossing the line like that, I wish I could have that moment back and deal with it in the same spirit as I did the preceding 60 minutes. Since I can?t, an apology is all I?ve got and I sincerely hope those people will accept it. Up front, I wish to say that I am sorry to the fan and any others who were involved. As a husband, father, and a musician on the public stage, I understand that it is my duty to always take responsibility for my actions in a socially acceptable way, and most especially in the face of confrontation.

I want to apologize to the San Antonio fans, also, for having to cancel that show. I hope we can make it up down the road. I?ve obviously already talked to my band about it but I also want to publicly apologize for putting them in a bad position, as well as my manager, booking agent, label, and the support bands. My actions were unprofessional and unfair to the people I work with.
