Also anyone who doesn't, at the very least, carry an Irish passport should refrain from mentioning anything in the ballpark bold of this:

'This is the greatest punk band from my ancestral homeland of Ireland, and it makes me sick'.

Instant death by firing squad.

yeah, dude bitches about everything. how about being glad people love your overrated band/

also, i get sick of the pogues always being referred to as a 'punk' band. they're not, really. sure, they come from that world, but they're not really a punk band. just cuz punks like a band doesn't really make it a 'punk' band.

What do you call bands that are made up of punks that play punky music then?

look, i have possibly the broadest definition of 'punk' of almost anyone i know, but have you actually listened to most pogues albums/ there's very little of what you would call 'punk.' i mean, avril lavigne plays 'punky' music. do you consider Punky Brewster punk/

i'm not gonna get into a semantic argument about what is or isn't 'punk.' and who cares anyway. there's no denying punks love the pogues. but the punks also love dropkick murphys. the pogues are far closer to being a trad irish band than a punk band.
also, they're fans are annoying as hell.

what i'm saying i guess is that it is possible to be a punk, play in a band, but have that band not be a punk band. just cuz yr punk doesn't make yr band punk.
i mean look at the titus andronicus guy. he thinks he's punk, he thinks his band is punk, he convinced the mainstream press that his band is punk, but his band is not punk.

It's been years since I listened to them regularly, but their first couple albums are pretty punk-ish. I mean, it's obviously punk music to me. Sure their later stuff got pretty wimpy and schmaltzy, but even on later albums they did some punk songs occasionally.

I wouldn't call the Beastie Boys last several albums "punk" but that doesn't mean they weren't a punk band.

Also, you're wrong about the punks loving Dropkick Murphys. Those are douchebags, not punks. There is a difference, albeit a small one.

Just because that Titus dude thinks he's punk and has convinced the mainstream press his band is punk does not mean he's a punk. Duh.

i guess what i find annoying is that shitty mainstream music writers are always trying to connect ANYONE to punk or hardcore in a pitiful attempt to lend said artist some sort of 'underground' cred or legitimacy. NOT EVERYTHING COOL HAS TO BE PUNK. i want to smash that statement into their faces. it's always 'so and so got their start playing in punk bands back in high school.' awesome, so that shitty blink-182 [or screeching weasel or whatever] wannabe band you were in gives you some sort of credibility as you serenade us with whatever shit band yr in now. who cares if you were in a hardcore band when you play pop-country now, or whatever. if yr pop-country is good, i don't care if you were in a hardcore band. if yr shit sucks, then knowing that you were in a hardcore band [even a good one] doesn't make yr shit any better.

i'm sure shane macgowan could give a fuck about 'punk,' especially what it might be in this day and age. i mean, dude doesn't care about anything but drink, obviously, but you know what i mean, naimeen/
