Shit band, shit records. The decline of Ian Svenonius's contributions to the realm of the worthwhile has been so steady you could set your moon calendar by it...from N.O.U. to the Make Up to "Play Power" to publishing books of shitty poetry to DJing Lizzy Mercier Descloux records at hipster dance parties. what's he gonna do next...guest spot on a Beck album?

Chain and the Gang.

really liked 'in mass mind', really liked seeing the live show. other than that i have TRIED and owned a few of their other records, but none of them really pull me in and i always just figure if i want to listen to them, in mass mind it will be.  oh, the cold rice 'live' record wasn't that bad either.

MUSIC SHOULD BE ABOUT FUCKING. FUCKING SHOULD BE ABOUT MUSIC. AC/DC NOT DC/PC. TAKE ME TO THE MARDI GRAS. PASS THE DU$TY, I THINK I'M DR. JOHN.

I GRABBED THE ASS OF THE KEYBOARD PLAYER FROM THE FROGS.

SAW HIM WHEN HE WAS TOURING UNDER THE MONIKER OF "SCENE CREAMERS". DANCED WITH ACTUAL GIRLS AND PARTIED PRETTY HARD. LUTZKO?

AND he works at one of the world's prominent "independent" labels.

We are all mere mice in comparison.

I think I saw him tearing it up in the pit too, mid-80s Pitt-style. One-man Wall of Death.
That other shit might be true but this is 100% bullshit.  Maybe no actual pit was started during the Kim Phuc set because everyone was afraid of hurting the old dude standing in front of the band (or that old dude in the band?).

The Make Up have some jams and some non-jams but I decided a long time ago to give them a pass because of their "Hey Joe" cover.  I still think it is brilliant and hilarious.
I also am a legit fan of the Scene Creamers / Weird War, but that has more to do with being a fan of Alex Minoff's guitar playing than Ian Sevonius.  That Felt Letters single was funny and catchy too.

The kids only pit to the fast bands, Martin. Kim Phuc is a slow grinding screw, basement hardcore Killing Joke made by guys even older than you (cept for Kasanovich). They were really good.

Only thing I own from dude is the Cupid Car Club single, which I still like. Everything else I've strongly disliked.

Love the story of my friend walking in on Ian practicing his moves in the bathroom before a show.

You know who loves Ian Sev shit? THE UNITED KINGDOM.
(I swear, that shit was on every club stereo last month)

I may not look it, but I am older than everyone in Kim Phuc.

Hey. Everybody's got the right to like, dislike or feel ambiguously towards fey hipster funk, or give free passes to a guy who sounds like a cocaine version of Tickle Me Elmo. But it just ain't my thing, baby. I can't get into anything he's been involved with - forgot about the Scene Creamers stuff (mea culpa) but the story don't change. The singer in my old band was OBSESSED with Svenonius and developed a whiny, affected style of delivery that made our shit sound even worse than it was already... a good amount of my disgust comes directly from that experience.
