Clint's take on the Delta 72 was somehow even more boring than they are.

...Good lord, what crap.  Where to start? First of all, maddeningly, the bass player just seems to repeat the same one measure, maybe four note bass line over & over again(similar to the Fugazi bass player).  This is the bullshit type of thing that idiots will remark upon, "He's such a great bass player, he doesn't just play the same root note as the guitar player."   No, he sucks.  Real bass players have fills & turnarounds & aren't just stuck in a three second loop.

Overall, the songs are too long & fucking boring, hammering that one same riff into the ground with no variation

Saw them twice, both times by accident. The first time they played after Harry Pussy. And to be fair, anyone playing in that slot is going to sound dull in comparison. The other time I saw in the bathroom changing into their outfits right before they played. They were crakin jokes about their fans. Classy.

I'd like to single the below out as probably the single worst post in Termbo history.
I saw the Delta 72 in '98 and hated them, haven't listened to a lick of 'em since.  Of course, back then I didn't know shit about R&B or soul, lemme refresh my opinion...

(imagine 15 to 20 minutes me listening to their Soul of the New Machine LP here)

...Good lord, what crap. Now sure, sometimes he(the whole song) will go up a fourth in a truncated version of the 145 progression(the Fatals were notorious for this), but it really doesn't add much.  I mean, if the most "complicated" progression you can handle is only the first half of what is considered one of the simplest progressions there is, then maybe you should pack it in.

Next, we have the guitar player.  Most of these riffs sound like they originated with the bass player.  The axe-man, he seems to have little clue as to what to play over them.  He goes for this anemic bottle neck blues thing but he never seems to play an actual solo. If you've missed it, that's the only thing slide guitar is really good for: playing solos.   This is especially irksome because there's a bunch of instrumental songs on this record & there's barely anything that would pass for a solo in any of them.  See the first thirty seconds of the first song on The Immortal Lee County Killers Essential Fucked Up Blues LP for a much better version of everything this guitar player is trying.  Anyway, as will become a theme, we should be thankful the Delta guitar player ain't even worse.  To wit: he keeps the wah-pedal bullshit to a minimum.

The drums, they just seem like a standard post-hardcore type drummer.  He keeps it as close to 4/4 as possible.  He could be a doing a lot to add to the groove or even just rhythmically reminding the bass player he should be playing some fills every 4 or so measures.  Still though, we should be counting our blessings, because at least he doesn't play any fucking disco beats(similarly, at least the bass player avoids octave jump basslines).

Next is the vocalist.  He seems to vacillate between GVSB-lite(the guitar shows shades of this too) & the disingenuous "lawdy-lawdy" type vocalizing as employed by the billion Blueshammers of the world.  The keyboard parts, generally seem like they could be played with one hand, there's not a hint of the notion of "playing a bassline with the left hand while playing a chord with the right hand'.  No arpeggios or leads to be heard.

Overall, the songs are too long & fucking boring, hammering that one same riff into the ground with no variation & no real solo'ing over it.  A relic of the stupid-ages, when it was permissible for your influences to range no further than MC5, the Stooges & three James Brown records.
YOU FUCKING PHILISTINE.

Delta 72 are one of the worst bands I've ever seen in my life. Tops Spencer at his muggin-est and Svenonius with the posing.

Considering I saw the Make-Up in '98 in Columbus, I can confirm this. She's pretty hot tho.
