Not really. This shit has happened before over the years. Sometimes the internet is apparently serious business. There will be no more bannings (in jest or not) unless they come from me from now on. Other than that, SSR, myself and manchovies are all still mods, and will maintain the forums as best we can.

I don't think there's anti-mod sentiment, I think there was anti-arbitrary-and-capricious-bannings-by-SSR sentiment.  I get the joke angle, but if several valued posters leave in one day, something's not right, and I see that's been addressed.

arbitrary-and-capricious-bannings-by-SSR

Give me a break. Absolutely nothing arbitrary and nothing capricious. My bannings were all informed by iron-forged logic and steely resolve. I am a man with a porpoise.

These baboons were yelling at each other in a very ugly way.  There was no one baboon who was the target-- just all yelling and barking.  And, to punctuate their barks and scoldings at each other, all of the adult baboons were pooping in their hand and throwing it at each other.  Brown stuff was flying in all directions, and the baboons were getting to look pretty messy.  I presume the meeting adjourned when the ammunition could no longer be produced.

This shit has happened before over the years.

Four important users disappearing in one day?  Really?

No, people being babies about the internet....but seriously, when Kevin was banned way back when, everyone quit, same situation.

Bradx and harry "quit" every year or so so they dont count and Officer Brad is already back.

It boils down to Tony and RR walking off in a huff, and although I miss them dearly, they chose to leave instead of coming to me, and I could've taken care of it sans any drama. They're no more "important" than anyone else here. Maybe Scott's joke went too far, it happens. I dont think Scott needs to apologize to anyone. Scott will continue to moderate these boards. It's a thankless and mind-numbing task, and I think he's done a fine job for the past 5 years or whatever. We've talked about it the situation and it won't happen again. Things are as resolved as they're going to be, let's move on. Anyone who "quit" will obviously be welcomed back with open arms, as have the many quitters before them.

Apologize for what? For people leaving on their own accord?

Here is the lowdown on banning/accts deleted by mods, deleted threads/post and other crap from "behind the scenes."

There has been about a hundred bans/accts deleted by mods in the history of this board. 50% of the bans/deletes are of fake accounts and 'bots. Pretty simple to explain and accept. The rest have been real people.

40% were thrown off because they were essentially spammers - people who came on the board only to sell their stuff, people who list their whole distro/tshirt catalog, etc. Unless they are obviously shills, these people get a warning: Contribute to other parts of the discussion or don't come here to sell your shit. They are the folks who prompted the Seller Disclaimer at the top of the New Shit for Sale thread.

That leaves us 10% and those can be ground down to three categories: Interventions, Shitty content, and Joke bans.

Interventions: A handful of people have been banned by me because I like them and they either had spiraled or were spiraling into Plastic Bag Baby territory. As much as I like a meltdown, there are also people I like who have gotten sucked into that internet vacuum and need a break lest they totally lose it. Everyone of these people have been sent an email saying "Dude, back away from the computer. Don't take this shit so seriously. Come back in a couple days." Only one of these people has ever complained, but he was off the rails, and later came back. If you want to know the names of these folks, I will leave it up to them.

Shitty content: Every once in a whole Richie and I will throw messages back & forth bemoaning a shitty user or two. Over a several weeks or months, we deliberate about whether or not to ban the person due to their inability to contribute anything other than potty jokes or raves about really shitty bands like Nashville Pussy. It is pure and simple quality control. That is why Pat Vulture got banned. It is why we took out that Brit whose sole retort was "You are a fag." Layaway Butch got banned until he promised to up the quality of his posts. One user got banned for actually posting content of people eating shit - that was Officer Officer Officer Officer Brad X after he threw a tantrum about the Vint banning. For the record, that was the one and only time Officer Officer Officer Officer Brad got banned and it lasted for all of one week. He spent a little time complaining about me on the Wisconsin Rock & Roll board (does it even exist anymore?) and then came back. Last time he "quit" he started his own board, which lasted all of three weeks. Other than the shit ban, Officer Officer Officer Officer Brad has been tolerated, even as he ran people off with race/sex/queer/jew baiting.

Joke bans: These have been in existence for years and I am the only one who does them. They usually last no longer than a day. Lately they've been a running gag on the City Rock thread. You come on, say you dont want to waste your time reading the thread but you hate city rock or is this city rock or whatever and you get banned so you have time to read the thread. Mark Beef has gotten banned a few times as a gag (and a few times for quality control) and he takes it in stride. Actually everyone but AA took it in stride. And believe me, with AA it was just part of a gag. When he logged in he got a message that said "Take 24 hours off to read the City Rock thread."  Less than an hour after he was banned, it was lifted. And then he quit. He either didn't get the joke, or like the joke, or think that he should be subjected to the joke or made fun of. If it is that he didn't get the joke, hey, I'm sorry it went over your head. If he didn't like the joke, well, sorry about that, it amused me. If he (or anyone who quit in his wake) don't think he should be made fun of, what do you want me to say? And he got called a few names out the door. So what?

Oh and busted was banned for insulting Conan. I don't know what you call that ban other than me thinking insulting a guy who flew 3000 miles to play a show for a bunch of termbo freaks, and who turned out to be a very very nice & humble guy, was crummy. Note that when busted posted that SS10 was canceled, he didn't get banned. He got a curt message. We tossed insults back and forth privately, he sent me a picture of a penis pig, and all was fine. No ban. In fact, no one has ever been banned for insulting me, talking shit about me, arguing with me, etc. If I used the ban to keep people from giving me shit, I'm fair game.
----
Snore.........on to deleted posts/threads. I delete two kinds of posts (not of my own): ones containing pornography and those containing links to share files. There is no age restriction on this site, so the porn deletes are easy to figure out. It's termbo policy. If you dont like it there is an internet of porn you can surf. The share files is explained in the do not post share files post.

Threads can be deleted two ways: By the person who starts the thread and by the moderators. Plenty of people who start threads delete their threads. Perfect example is the infamous Jay Reatard meltdown thread, which he took out. Great meltdown, no record of it. (In order to prevent Plastic Bag Baby from deleting his meltdown in a thread that he started, we [I cant remember if it was Richie or I], locked him out of his account right after he quit. Meltdown preserved.) Officer Officer Officer Officer Brad X habitually deleted his own threads when they turned against him. Recent example was his first Fuck California thread which he deleted when the content turned to Fuck Wisconsin. He couldn't take it so he deleted the thread.

I rarely delete threads. That is where Richie chooses to use his power. He does so when a thread goes totally off the rails and turns into a personal attack on somebody. If I think a thread is shitty, I pop-punk it. I pop-punk every thread started by Clint because it is a cheap joke.

(Right now outside I hear fireworks and "Detroit Rock City". KISS is playing at River Cats Stadium.)

Those are all the glamorous things I do as moderator. 99% of the time what I do is: move threads of records for sale from music board to sales board, move show announcements from music board to show board, move posts on cities to the cities board, write Richie about site outages & flaws, help Richie try to figure out ways to raise money and keep this free, sort through dozens of member applications and weed out the bots and spammers, etc.

Remember City Rock is serious business.

I apologized, like a MAN, to Conan. Both privately and publicly.
