He's a tax lawyer and a gaming prodigy of sorts.

that deck he runs is insanely good but reallllllly boring.  i'm glad its most important card got banned. Except I had several and could've sold them for a lot more pre-ban

yes i'm a total dork that plays magic. fun game. requires pretty good math/logic skills. there's a reason why so many poker pros play it.

I haven't played Magic seriously in maybe 10 years, but I looked through all my old cards recently and have been playing casually every couple of weeks with my roommate.  What you're talking about is exactly what's always bored me about competitive Magic.  What's the point of going to a 50-person tournament where everyone's playing variations of the same 2-3 decks?

haven't played magic cards. yet.
I wish this was a general thread about dorky role playing games because I played DnD last weekend and it was fun.
I mean you're just sitting around listening to records with a bunch of dummies, but instead of smoking weed and watching muted TV, you're ENNIS THE BARBARIC HALF ORC being slaughtered by rats in a hidden storage room of Roghan and Zelligar's dungeon

Totally agree. The game is most fun when playing casual decks with freinds.

I had magic cards when they first came out in '94. I didn't understand how to play. I just thought they were cool because my neighbor had a bunch and I was into wizards and shit.

Skateboarding saved me.

Shit. I just realized that I still have those stupid cards stored away in a shoe box somewhere. I wonder if they're worth anything now.

My little brother was (is?) super into this shit. He has probably a dozen shoeboxes filled with cards. He claims that they'll be super valuable one day... I'm not so sure.

Na if they are not already of value I doubt they will be long term. Certin cards can go for big bucks but they are mostly from the first few sets. The newest stuff will have some cards in the 20$ range but not to many beyond that. Its sort of like comic books and Baseball cards in the 90's. Kids collected them thinking they would one day be worth a fortune but for the most part they are worth cover price at best now.

I thought Magic cards were a fad of my youth but in the past few years I've seen two huge Magic gatherings in Phoenix and Toronto.  Laughed my ass off.

When I was in middle school I picked up a deck to try it out.  I was on a Boy Scout camping trip in some cabin and the others were seasoned veterans of the Magic game.  I tried my hand and quickly grew irritated with these assorted nerds complaining about the proper "tapping" procedure or some such shit.  I ended my Magic career shortly afterwards.

I'll bet all of those dorks make more money than me now.

I'm sure that by this point he's sold all the "valuable" ones for weed money.
