I would consider them one of my favorites, but they're a band that's mostly pure enjoyment. Sure, I can see the artistic merit in their simplicity etc, but there's other punk bands that are just as good/better than them that have a much more interesting approach and emotional impact and I usually place that above pure enjoyment for things that I'm into.

Kinda mongo to make a religion of The Ramones, but I guess that's the point, right?  Worshiping at that shrine is pro forma for punx of a certain age, but anyone w a decent pair of ears and a few extra brain cells eventually figgers out that:  Swell Maps > Ramones.  Ubu > Ramones.  Eels > Ramones.  Maybe even Pistols > Ramones, I dunno.  Why not?
