if you're a card carrying full member of the punk rock pyramid scheme, and you've booked your own tour all across the USA, and your band is boring, your band is boring.

Best part of this thread is that Rutabowa is talking about touring the UK. It's the size of Ohio. And he lives there.
no i'm not. we book our own gigs in the UK. i'm talking about Europe. you don't have a clue about me do you! like you already said.

i guess maybe america is different, and there are only 2 options: either 100% diy, never let anyone do anything to help out style; OR "top tier Scian approved booking agency" which i assume is some evil corporation, neither of which i have any experience of so i can't comment (i don't count us organising gigs across the UK as DIY, that is just "organising some gigs", i wouldn't personally make a big deal that we were doing something great by doing that). i think there are lots of options in between, eg some guy who has been in a few bands of the same kind and done a lot of touring agrees to book a tour around people he knows, and takes a little cut of whatever is made (so you could never come back in debt unless a van blows up etc). that is the kind of booking agent i am talking about.

any this thread: some guy doing a punk label asksfor a recommendation, i give one which i think will help out (thereby contributing to the "punk community") then everyone else spends all their time bitching!! is it always like this?

I guess I could kind of be considered a booking agent because I've booked so many tours for bands I have put out. I've also booked Florida legs of tours for a lot of bands, but I consider that more hooking my friends up then playing booking agent.
well yes that is 100% being a booking agent isn't it?! what could possibly make that not being a booking agent?

Not everyone has a yearning desire to go live in a gulag. Some of us used to watch Robin Leach's program and daydream.

Gulag Booking Agency.  I like where this is going.
I fucking hate 99% of you

mainly the fact that I never got paid for it.

No, but if you put out albums for bands who have a following, it may help out your label/the bands to give an assist. I'm sure a low profile band with one single can string together a week of bar shows.
