real punx only play basements.

No, real punx promise to play basements but ask for $50 by Paypal in advance to cover gas.  Then, once the $50 arrives, they buy beer, get drunk, and never show up for the gig.

I guess I could kind of be considered a booking agent because I've booked so many tours for bands I have put out. I've also booked Florida legs of tours for a lot of bands, but I consider that more hooking my friends up then playing booking agent.
well yes that is 100% being a booking agent isn't it?! what could possibly make that not being a booking agent?
mainly the fact that I never got paid for it.
if you are doing the work then you're doing the job... whether or not you get paid... in my opinion. "a plumber who works for free is still a plumber" (c) 2012 me.

Obviously you have never dealt with a real booming agent because they don't work for free. If your friend is then one booking your shows it might make you feel cool to call him your booking agent, but he's not he's your friend that is booking you some shows, and please drop this plumber analogy. You have taken it is far as its going to go.

whether or not the person doing the booking gets paid, they are still taking the effort of booking away from the band... which i thought was why everyone was calling me "pussy" etc, because we aren't doing that work? or do i have that wrong? would it be fine to get someone else to do the booking work as long as we didn't pay them? that's just mean!!

as for that dig about "make you feel cool", i will ignore that because i don't think you really mean that, maybe you are pissed off about something else; it is enough for me to say that it is not true.

welcome aboard

I'm sure one night I came across a board that was like a sort of anti-termbo but i was pretty baked so can only vaguely remember it. It was really enthusiastic
into hard music with tyte flows and crazy screams

If you are making music, going to shows, putting out records, posting on terminal boredom, etc then you are part of a network of people who are working together to help each other.  Sometimes there is money exchanged for services and I agree with you that there is nothing inherently wrong with that.  But if you never attempt to reach out and make connections with people yourself then you are missing out on one of the key elements that helps make the network exist.  I think this is kinda sad:
we don't have all that many friends so we needed a booking agent as they know lots of people all over the place who put on gigs, if we did it by ourselves through people that we knew we would would never have left south east england probably.

where have i ever said that? yr filling in a lot of blanks with assumptions. just because we don't book the shows, and organise the schedule doesn't mean we aren't making connections with people in any number of other ways (no. 1 by actually DOING the gigs and meeting and talking to people face to face, how i much prefer doing things)

I guess that's the problem of discovering punk rock well into adulthood after you've already had kids.
just saw this...
it's not MY problem is it, i am totally happy! you just seem to have a problem with me not being 100% like you! i think it's great doing it your way, no question. but i find it fine other ways too, and noone has said a word to convince me otherwise!

Seriously, I get that there is usually one of you in every band, but how did you all manage to join together for a band comprised only of lazy, entitled slobsnobs?

You said you would have never played outside your area if it weren't for booking agents.  Where am I making assumptions?  I'm confused.

you are assuming that if we don't book a tour then we are not reaching out and making connections. i say booking a tour is only a tiny part of reaching out and making connections, and a much more important part is actually going out and doing it.

There is no point trying to reason with you, you simply don't GET it.
