My personal favorite soul SONG is Slip Away by Clarence Carter. It's a subject I relate to well and it's a straightup killer tune.

Marvin Gaye - Whats Goin On
I have to second this.  Somehow it slipped my mind.  One of the few things that I think are better on CD.  Since it flows like one continuous piece I always find it annoying when side one ends and interrupts the flow.

Man, I dont know why but those Sam Cooke live albums have never clicked with me. I know that they should and I tried and tried. Maybe I just hit them in the wrong mood. I gotta go back and try them again...

Maybe it's because Sam Cooke shouldn't sound like he's entertaining at a Vegas casino.

Timmy Willis "I'm a Man"

Just picked up the 45 recently but here it on the SHAFTMAN comp. I'ts everything a raw soul record should be.

Also Harvey scales "Love-Itis" Pretty much the same description as above, and also along those lies is Wilson Pickett's "Mini Skirt Minnie."

Actually, my numero uno (on the instrumental tip is the Bar Kays "Soul Finger" b/w "Knucklehead" 45. Both sides are massive, I actually like "Knucklehead" better.

Ther'es a million and impossible to choose. Really, every one I got.

Live @ the Copa is DEFINITELY like that...really boring.  "Harlem Square Club" is way more rockin'.

Joe - Flip that Harvy Scales record over. The flip is better than Love-Itis (which is good, too. Thats a double A side if there ever was one).

I think my favorite soul 45 is I Idolize You by Ike & Tina. That jackass Jon Spencer did a cover of it but only embarassed himself with it.

C'mon. Should have never touched it. The original is flawless, perfect. And Tina Turner is to distinctive to try  to cover. Really better to try to put a male voice to it if you are gonna cover it, than a femal voice. But either way is gonna fail.
