Hip Hop distros
« on: October 02, 2006, 07:00:25 PM »
Any body know any good distros for hip hop on vinyl (besides Dusty Groove and Revolver)?  I kinda want to pick up Spank Rock, Dizzee Rascal, Darc Mind, and Dalek all at the same time.

Shit yes!  Thanks everyone.  Kevin, I been meaning to ask you for some recommends lately; I've been listening to shit like Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, & Saul Williams a lot lately.  I'll def. check out the Kidtronik.  You ever heard 2nd Gen?  I wanna know if they're any good before I go an' order the stuff.

C.X. Kidtronik is actually Saul Williams live backing band. Saul Williams started in C.X.'s old band in the early 90's. That band had moshpits and their shows and helped inspire crunk.

Haven't heard 2nd Gen but I'll look for it. If you like Wiley and Dizzee you may wanna check out Virus Syndicate. I don't care for much grime apart from Dizzee but Virus Syndicate is actually pretty good. I keep meaning to check out Vex and apparantly he/they are real good grime.

I don't know a lot about grime other than Dizzee, Wiley, and what's on the Run the Road comp. but the one that really stands out on there is Ears with his song called "Happy Days"; that shit is incredible!  I wish I could find more by him to see if the rest is as good.  And I'll be sure to look out for Virus Syndicate and Vex.

Also the new Subtle is really good.  I'm not much of an Anticon fan but this new Subtle album really caught me off gaurd especially considering how much I dislike the last one.

that 'Michael Jackson' song reminded me of the horrendous Mos Def song "Rock N' Roll".

Dude are you serious, that is the most embarassing song I have ever heard, I should have added it to the worst song ever thread had I remembered. "Kenny G ain't got no soul/John Coltrane is rock n' roll".  Oh forreal? Thanks for clearing that up Mos Def.

Talib Kweli is speaking on a panel at a 'Hip Hop Symposium' taking place tomorrow at my college. Gonna go for fun, will be gay city.

Yes, Daniel, I am completely serious (horrendous, only-negros-can-play-rock-n-roll lyrics aside).

Used to have the 1st 2nd Gen record. A couple tracks were super-bone-crushing beat ill shit, like a stripped down Techno Animal or Dalek w/o the dark rhymes. I think Dalek was on a track actually. Think it was on Mute. Pick it up used say I.
