What's this Ebay sellers story? How does he have all these impossibly rare records? Is he a millionaire by now? Everything I want this guy doesn't seem to care selling...for big bucks.

I believe he brokers a lot of stuff. People sell through him knowing he will get top prices. People buy from him for top prices know that what they get is exactly what he says it is, condition will be exact or better than described, and shit will get shipped on time and well packed. I figure the guy get 25% more than anyone else does based on welll deserved rep and good service.

Sometimes he brokers, sometimes he just buys the collection, just like reg-lar folks do. The secret is listing every week, clear no-bs pics and honest grading. Something that seems to be lost on about 90% of the Euros on eBay who think everything is "ex, clean!" when it's clouded with ring wear or sounds like sub-space interference. The deal is too many Euros are terrified of listing something VG+, which just means a standard used record without a serious flaw.

I have happily purchased several items from him from the Greg Shaw RIP collection dump, although the garage comps he recently unloaded went for crazy money and I was forced to listen to records I already owned, just tragic.

Hes not really that young. But he is probably the ultimate collector and an inspiration of sorts. Check www.ryanrichardson.com for some of his other exploits.

Ryan's 34 - he had the benefit of getting heavily into punk collecting in college in the early '90s when pretty much the ceiling for a punk record was $100 (I remember in college in '89 seeing a copy of "Cough Cool" on the wall at In Your Ear in Boston on consignment from Chuck Warner for $200, and that was the most expensive record I'd ever seen.) And that was for known stuff... most of then-unknown stuff could still be picked up pretty cheaply "in the wild."

I had a roommate in the mid 80s who was a big collector and that was when original Dangerhouses and Crime 7"s were the big ticket items at $50 a pop. He was hooked in with first wave of KBD collectors - Kugelberg, Byron Coley, Tim Yo, etc. Great to have with as a roommate? Would have been if he didnt have that secretive collector's side and disappear into his bedroom with his newest score under his sleeve, ready to listen to it alone on headphones! Count Richardson among the second wave, along with the Discourage boys.

Who is Byron Coley?

The most important "rock writer" to me in my formative years. The only undergrounder to go mainstream over the last few decades and retain credibility. When Spin asks for a year end best albums top tenner, he still includes the Hunches & A-Frames & Oblivians and shit, even though he's probably 55 years old and should have burned out long ago. One of dozen or so people in history who has written poetry that doesn't make me wanna puke.
