i suspect several of the bands might be remembered in 30 years, but as a movement? probably wouldnt rate a single sentence in any worthwhile music history. the punk stuff of the last dozen years is light years more interesting than the garage stuff, and it hasnt exactly been a golden age for that shit either. the majority of 00s garage is played by aging rockers for an aging audience, its a dying genre and deservedly so. barely better than the caricature rockabilly has become. both are too strictly regimented and their progenitors are rapidly aging. punk is so meaningless as a title i suspect it will live on for some time longer, like rock n roll before it, they are far more all encompassing. 30 years from now i seriously doubt garage will exist as a genre at all, especially as it doesnt have an attractive kitschy image like rockabilly with its fonzies and betty pages to fall back on.
