Merzbow also released a split 12" with Mike IX Williams of NOLA sludge/doom metal gods Eyehategod, Mike once told me in an interview I did with him, haven't heard yet I shamed to say, but Merzbow is pretty adventureous.

Eyehategod sorta lost their mojo in the 00's, album-wise. Of doom metal bands I'm mostly impressed with 2020's comeback LP from Cirith Ungol, Forever Black

up there with the best of Pentagram, Saint Vitus and Trouble (Eric Wagner RIP) ... yes the bandname is Tolkien related

I'm also nuts about a british pre-Black Sabbath (proto) doom metal act called Wicked Lady, there's an insanely good comp with 'em The Axeman Cometh 1968-72 with a neat Sabbath meets Roky Erickson (Aliens period) meets Pentagram vibe going on. They sadly only made demos back in the day

This shit is too cool for school!

More old school for this gloomy fall monday

Cirith fucking Ungol...been around for nearly as long as Black Sabbath and yet...still remember Mark Arm making a joke about them in the mid eighties. From wiki:

Quote
Greg Lindstrom, Robert Garven, Jerry Fogle and Pat Galligan (later a guitarist in Angry Samoans) played in Titanic,[4] their first band in junior high school.

In 1980, they were signed by Liquid Flames Records, and released their first album, Frost and Fire,[4] with Tim Baker on vocals and songs written by bassist and guitarist Greg Lindstrom.[5] It was described by some music journalists as 'The Worst Heavy Metal Album of All Time'

Been listening to new Divine Horsemen, Alice Bag, Flying Luttenbachers and that early Sonny Vincent stuff on Hozac.
I guess Walter Weasel is some controversial figure(?) ~ Really dig this Mahavishnu meets the 21st century "Brutal Prog"...
The Flying Luttenbachers "Demonic Velocities II" from "Negative Infinity"

I imagine you have heard this new Sonny Vincent/Bobby Liebling joint Sr. Diz?

The Limit rules! I played with Sonny Vincent twice with different bands in the 90s and like 10 years ago, cool dude.

Digging this spanish synth punk comp massively

https://lesdisquesbongojoe.bandcamp.com/album/la-contra-ola-synth-wave-post-punk-from-spain-1980-86

Now freejazzing

I got a groovy burnt dvd docu (taped from swedish tv) of Ayler with the same name

Love this tune + interview with Waters on Letterman 1982

KK ' s PRIEST - Sermons of the Sinner
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4goTjAg8-k

KK Downing left Judas Priest in anger to form a band and release an album that sounds exactly like Priest with a former ex-Priest singer (Ripper Owens) who filled in for Halford when Rob pullled a Bruce Dickinson, haha, as stupid as the 2-3 versions of Black Flag, but still a great fucking album of topshelf classic metal anyway.

Who the fuck releases an album that good after 29 years? Thanks for posting that Cirith Ungul because it fucking rules. Makes me want to mosh around the kitchen and headbang whlie mowing the lawn

I actually like the new Eyehategod. I think it is a good comeback in sound. VOcals are more upfront, which might put a few people off. However, the guitar sound is pretty gnarly.

29 years for a comeback album is nuts! I think Cirith Ungol is visiting Denmark next year for the first time ever, which is so cool.

I probably need to hear newer Eyehategod albums again but I do think they lack some of the previous monster riffs off In the Name of Suffering, Take as Needed for Pain and Dopesick. Here's me and riffmaster Jimmy Bower after I did a radio interview with EHG like 10 years ago in Copenhagen after too many beers.

Was in a (healthy) discussion yesterday with some friends regarding whats the most important band, Velvet Underground or Kraftwerk? I sorta first argued for VU but ending up saying that the electro-krauts probably are even more important. Yeah, the two first Kraftwerk records are pretty useless unlike the VU debut (probably most important debut) but stuff like Trans Europa Express or Radio-Activity is a full-scale music revolution, and I was confirmed in that today by listen to 'em this morning

Kraftwerk probably inspired more bad bands than VU though ...

King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon

Still 100% convinced of KC's awesomeness on their 2nd album

The new Ministry LP sux but I like this tune with Jello on leadvox, the rest of Moral Hygiene is dullsville, but I was never a huge fan of the band

Aussie cult black/death/war metal lunatics Sadistik Exekution been around since 1985 are still the craziest extreme metal band ever, like a retarded version of Blasphemy, Sodom, Beherit, Parabellum, Sarcofago and Nifelheim (or Venom buttfucked by Heresy or Ripcord). There's a strong sexy 80's south american vileness to 'em and the bassist is insane and the vocals by Rok are sublimely sick. Started this rainy day with three masterpieces, K.A.O.A., We Are Death ... Fukk You! & The Magus.

The sun has started to shine, thanx to Sadistik Exekution

Beefheart time!

Truly amazing immortal stuff that never dates. Saw The Magic Band perform like 15 years ago with Drumbo singing, it was pretty good, mostly tunes off Spotlight Kid and Clear Spot.

Their 1972 debut doesn't get enough love IMO, like a mix between Captain Beyond and Stray. Young Michael Schenker's guitar licks are amazing, the year after he joined UFO and Uli Jon Roth (GOD!) replaced him in Scorpions which 70's records equal the very best of Jiudas Priest.

For people who don't give a fuck about metal and classic rock and all that Rolling Stones BS, the MEN & HEALTH "Heroin on reality TV" EP on Levande Begravd is a great UKDIY inspired mess, like "People laugh at me coz I like weird music" played by Bojack Horseman and his roommate Todd.

First synth punk injection of this friday, two old Danish classics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws1HYz7ojr0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBXmeDKko3Y

+ Copenhagen's best grindcore act, Dead Instrument + 2 french bands on a 2018 comp as the coffee kicks in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD0Qq-6AEAg

More synth punk, an excellent comp

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCSx8NTK-qI

Glorious NWOHBM-ish debut LP from Austria

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGTgaZ2PXbg

Probably the best piece of NWOBHM worship this year along with Heavy Sentence, out on Dying Victims Productions (of course)

Just discovered that i missed the fact that the second LP of Obat Batuk came out 3 years ago. Great aussie HC punk. Far better than most of the hyped bs bands people are jumping up and down for these days. Their version of BF's Wasted "Hungry" is a masterpiece in it self.
More people should know about this band.

Siouxsie And The Banshees – Live At De Nieuwe Kade

Groovy live gig recorded in The Netherlands July 7, 1981

Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground

Sometimes even better than the debut

Wedding Present - George Best

Great "indie" band

Antichrist Siege Machine : Purifying Blade

Back to good ol' bestial war metal from Richmond, Virginia

Good to do shrooms to. Crazy japanese noise/drone/whatever band with some insane history in Julian Cope's Japrocksampler about terrorism and hijacking of planes to North Korea.

Wasted Suit - Fungus II

Totally hooked on this "noiserock" project of Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale & Ty Segall

MARDUK - Panzer Division Marduk

Love these swedish black metal fuckers

Many times my favorite Miles record, today is one of those times

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdtjTs63g7o
Obliteration - Cenotaph Obscure

One of Norway's best death metal acts, the riffs are mindblowing

Great offspring of Brainbombs, saw 'em in 2017. No Balls asked me for coke but I couldn't find any so they got hammered instead, pretty good Copenhagen show though

Rodney On The ROQ 1981
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWFc1m6dAs4

Pretty decent comp, on with vol. 2

No Angry Samoans tunes

Dictators - Backseat Boogie (Outtake from "Go Girl Crazy" Sessions Take 1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqVUw8vs9x8

Hot banger not included on the debutalbum for some strange reason

Released 21 Years ago today:

Doom classic with crust vibes

Graham Lambkin, 'Softly Softly Copy Copy' off the Penultimate Press' 'Solos' box set.

I'm thinking I'd love for somebody smarter than me to explain to me why I enjoy Lambkin's work so much. It doesn't really make a lot of sense as far as music goes but I just found myself loving it over the course of the last year, especially on headphones. The booklet that comes with the box set contains very interesting insight, has someone ever done anything like a podcast about him? Could be cool.

BTW: It's a shame there aren't cheap Shadow Ring represses out there.
