Opal

Yep, they were pretty great.  What's the deal with Early Recordings Vol. 2?  Does it exist in non-boot form?  Is there a vinyl version?

First Wall of Voodoo LP 'Dark Continent' is excellent synth/post-punk.

95% of Paisley Underground shit will leave you wanting. What you imagine it might be is a lot cooler than what it actually is.

I can hang with "Call of the West' as well (the LP with "Mexican Radio" on it), after that I forget what happens...Stan Ridgway's 'The Big Heat' is something I put on once in a while as well.

Yep, forgot about Opal.  That was great.  I do like those Wall of Voodoo records too.

Great call on Opal - Kendra Smith is a pretty interesting character while we're at it.

Banque Allemande LP
Loved that other one too but I seem to remember something about them having put out a few in Germany before that first SS R one...if only there was someone around here who could answer that question...
LP#1 is made up of the best moments of 2 CD releases, hence the LP title.

Danke sch?n!

I am not sure if the "CD" were ever really available to anyone but friends. I found the whole albums on one of those band sites that is no longer around. Side one of Eins, Zwei is pretty much the first "CD", side two the second. One of the two had a noise track. That was what was left off (you really arent missing anything not having it). There was also a "seven inch" which was really a 7 minute digital only track. It is really good. I dont know if it is available any more. I'll see if I can get it for a free download.

No love for the first Green On Red LP?

I honestly never cared much for Rain Parade. I like a number of GoR albums, I doubt there are many other defenders here tho. I also like the first Thin White Rope more than Rain Parade, as well as probably all the Scott Miller related projects (esp Game Theory of course). I never met anyone who was totally into the Three O'Clock. Are all these bands related? Fuck if I know. I should probably go back and listen to Rain Parade I guess.

If someone were to ask me what good starting point for this kind of stuff was, I'd say the first Rain Parade & Dream Syndicate LPs. Maybe that doesn't mean they're the best but they're both solid records whereas a lot of paisley underground records have good songs but are spotty. And like you said, the 80s production can wreck an otherwise good tune. Game Theory are no doubt the most thoughtful of the bunch though they're also a tougher nut to crack. I still don't fully appreciate them though I take a yearly crack at it. I don't know, once you take a closer look at this supposed scene it's hard to say who even fits in. Are the Church "paisley underground"? I don't know. If so they're better than all those bands!

Agreed but I'd say the 1st Rain Parade LP is great and this track's a killer.

Opal are great, I like that record with the pic where they're waiting for the cab after a gig. it's either on the front or the back of one of their records. Possible pop fact: Is that picture on the front of the record by the Rain Parade the same as on the Even As We Speak 45 on Sarah records? Actual pop fact: The 3 O'Clock did one of the best perfect pop songs ever with 'In Love In Too' from the French version of 'Baroque Hoedown'.

Green - Green

The Chicago power pop record from 1986.  I'm really digging it, I need to try to find their first EP and Elaine MacKenzie.

The Green on Red 12" on Steve Wynn's Down There imprint is great.

User: panama fist just saw the Rain Parade in Atlanta.  Somehow that seems like a good reunion show.
