Yeah the boys weren't into the Fernet. Shaun described it as dirt Listerine and looked like he was ready to hurl. Havin' spent way to much time drinking with SF bartenders over the years, it's pretty par for the course here or at least for me.

Last night was the Pink Reason send off. We had our last supper at Tulan on 6th Street which was great. Kev had never had Vietnamese food before. WHHHHHat? He loved it too, but he rolled outta there with a distended rice n' Tsingtao beer belly. Yeah we popped a lot of Pink Reason cherries on this tour! ahahaha...after we did a little Mission bar crawl talked about sexual exploits, shit and bands- definitely a meeting of the minds. Dropped'em off at the airport, and Kev handed me his last two Viagras and off they went back to the snow in Green Bay. Ahhhh man....

It's actually been in the 50s and raining every day here - global warming and all. There's Asian food of every stripe around here, I'm surprised that he hasn't had Vietnamese. Anything outside Mexican & Asian is barren, though. I love Greek/Turk food, wish there was at least something decent around here, but not a one. Italian sucks, too, except for Rozzi's, which is a deli not a dinner spot. Every other place dumps twice as much cheese as necessary (and I love cheese!) and is cooked in a bucket of grease & oversalted to mask the lack of good spices.

It's cool that people were nice enough to take them around. Shaun has AIDS, you know.

I like the Greek/Turk food too. I will say that the Greek-style Gyro (one of my favs) is hard to find in this city which is fuckin' crazy. Believe me  I have searched this city high and low for the gyro. You'll find the Turk Gyro no problem, and they are good to but not like the Greeks! The last good one I had was in Chi-town, I still have fond foodie flashbacks of it.
P.S. Shaun didn't mention the AIDS, but he did talk about the side effects of bathing in rubbing alcohol.

I've never seen any Vietnamese food out here, however, I will say that we got great Thai food here. Chinese food here sucks, but I'm not a huge fan of that stuff even when I know it's high quality. I've had authentic homemade Korean food before from my friend's mother who doesn't really speak English. That shit is like napalm. Beware of kimshee.

There is an amazing Italian place right down the street from my parents house called Mario's. The only problem is that it is almost never open. It's run by this recent Italian immigrant named Mario and totally feels like a European diner. If you wanna check it out sometime Todd, lemme know, I love the place.

Also, it needs to be noted that Dulcinea is the best hostess ever and definately the funnest person to drink with we met on tour. That girl cannot only keep up with our drunk ass Wisconsin ways, she could easily party us under the table.

Fuck yeah I wanna go to Mario's! It's not down on the Washington strip, is it? I'm no expert on Asian food, as it's my least favorite of all the popular & semi-popular "ethnic" foodstuffs, and that includes nose downlookers like German (though I'm half German, just like Dee Dee, which may explain that one).

(and yeah, I know that "Asian" cuts a wide fucking swath, but I've tried & tried & am not in love w/ Chinese or Tai or Korean or anything I've had)

Mario's is down by the river. It's really tucked away. It's very small too. I guess all of that kind of helps to the vibe too. It seems like a secret. Anyway, it's not that expensive either depending on what you get. So, I'll check the hours, might have to hit it up on a weekend.

There is a new Thai place in town too that you might like. It's not too far from yer place either. Definately one of the best restaurants in GB right now, but it's about eight bucks a meal. Thai is very different from other asian food I've had. It's all currys. Really great.

Thanks again, Dulcinea. You can truly take a punch. Being home is totally uncool, but it's 56 degrees outside. All it has to do is stay like this for the rest of the winter and I'll be set.
Punk means never having to say you're sorry.
