Heading to Portland, Maine for a long weekend, 6/19-6/23, any fingers pointed to record stones, rock n roll shows, food hubs and/or hidden gems would be greatly appreciated.

Enterprise Records and Strange Maine were both excellent. Lots of affordable weirdo buys at each. Yam burritos at Granny's were delicious.

Portland is a wonderful town to stroll around.

Brock, will definitely do.

A.OD., Yam burritos sound great and vegetarian! Never been and very stoked to stroll around.

Dave K, above and beyond. Muuuah!

Will be with some beer swillin', burrito lovin' gents who will surely appreciate the tips as well. thanks!

...I have been trying to find out whether my paternal grandfather (after whom I was named) was from Bangor or Portland (I once knew but have now forgotten .) (He died before I was born :(.) .
I wasn't even looking for a birth certificate , which I am told ME charges for , at this time , just to know which town(/area - which see-) he came from .
I made phone calls to both cities,  the thing here is that Grandpa was born in 1888 , just before , apparently , ME birth records started being easily (1892) available and , I was told that til' '92 brths in smaller towns could be entered as being in the larger cities...Logical enough , but both towns therefore said to me that there was no one of (My garndpa's) name listed as being born there - When I once tried a Web search , one of those two townd came up in a search as listing one document with GP's monicker - However , you had to sign up to get to see it , and I couldn't financially swing that at that point .

Anything else worth doing/checking would be  appreciated.

Definitely check out Moody Lords for records. Looks like a run of the mill vintage clothing store w/records, but they have great lps/prices. It's on Congress St.

Some of the best Thai food I've had recently was at Saeng Thai House, on the opposite end of Congress St.

Didn't do much record shopping when I was there. the comic book shop in the basement had only new LPs and a box of old 45's in generic sleeves, didn't even glance.

I will suggest J's Oyster bar down on the wharf for lobster rolls and lobster cocktail. Also Grittys as DaveK said is fun for local beer and hanging out.

Heading down here next week and though we've got places in mind for good beer, wondering about other spots to do some digging for records, getting good food/coffee, things to see etc. Aside from Moody Lords, Strange Maine and Enterprise are there any junk shops with piles of unorganized records to dig through?
