For those that went to college...
« on: November 19, 2006, 11:36:33 PM »
Why'd you go?  What did you major in?  Are you doing anything with that major?  I think there has already been a topic like this on here a while back but I want fresh answers.

University of Toronto, got suspended for bad grades, had half a degree of credits, Philosophy Specialist, went away for awhile, now back to finish it off as Philosophy and History. If anyone can tell me "How important a force was language in binding together the Atlantic world before 1783?" i'd be grateful. Thank you all.

I went back because I already had my A.A. and didn't know what else to do with my life. Honestly, that's the only valid reason I can give you. That and I wanted to get away from an insane girlfriend. FSU, American Studies/English double major. Don't plan on being able to get a job with that when done. Has made my dependance on alcohol and my sexual addiction alot worse, if that helps.

Washington and Jefferson College near Pittsburgh, 2000-2004.  I majored in English and did pretty well.  I got out of there with a 3.0 or so, and considering all the cheap beer I drank and free drugs I did, I don't think it was that bad.  My school had 1200 kids, 99.8% of whom were fucking assholes.  I came out of there with about 12 close friends, some relationships with great professors, and a bellyful of the most amazing food.  My school had the best food service of all time.  I miss it everyday.

Went to DePaul University in chicago from 2001-2005.  My major was Accountancy and my minor was in Digital Film.  Right now I am an accountant downtown and pretty much do tax and other financial work.  I start the CPA exam the second of January and will hopefully be done with all sections by May.  After my contract runs up here I hope to move to California, New York, or the UK to become a Production Accountant for film or television.

English & Russian. Dropped out with a semester worth of credits away from a BA, though due to budget cuts it would have taken me two years to get the four classes I needed and the department head wouldnt budge. I said fuck it, I have better things to do. Every once in a while I regret it, but the regret is just because I didnt complete it. I was going so I could get a job that I could slack in, namely (after four - six more years of school) teaching college.

BA in Psych & Biz, never got a job based on either, but both are pretty general at the Bachelor level (meaning you'd have to take on at least a Master's for good psych work).

i went to this terrible christian university that my dad worked for for 3 1/2 years and majored in communications....i fucked up alot there though and left with a pretty bad gpa.....i transferred to middle tennessee state university and went there for 4 years....i finally graduated in 2002 after passing 196 credits and brought my gpa up to a 3.2 i think.....my degree is in clothing design and costuming.  i moved to nyc 2 weeks after graduation and worked in the fashion industry for 2 years....i left last year though cuz i missed tn and hated my job.  i came here with intentions of signing up for grad school.  i've been thinking about getting my masters of ed so i could become a teacher....i got here too late to enroll though so i decided to start a band with my brother....i still haven't enrolled!  i currently work as an operator at a deaf relay center.....there's not really fashion design jobs in memphis.....

I went for a B to the motha fuckin' A in Visual Communication, out in Phoenix. Possibly the easiest degree ever, although I got it cause I like the work. I'd like to teach it sometime in the future. I like the idea of having the summers work free.

BA in Quantitative Economics at UC San Diego.  Masters Degree in Accountancy from Rice University.  I am a CPA and the controller of a company, so, yes, my work is in the field in which I was educated.

I wear a green shade visor hat at work and I have to roll up my sleeve to keep the ink from the spreadsheets from getting on me.

Florida A&M University
BA in History and Geography with a minor in Spanish, graduated with a 3.2 which is pretty remarkable considering how much weed I smoked and classes I missed.  My major is pretty much worthless but I like studying history so I'm ok with that.

Now I'm a TA at a high school but I'm going back to school to get my teaching certificate and after that getting my master's so I can teach at the college level.

Carlos...Is classical civilizations, a degree in ancient history....if so, that sounds pretty cool..

I have a BFA in Painting and Drawing.  So naturally I have a really awesome job that totally relates to my degree.

I still paint though.

I went to UW--Green Bay one year full time when I was 26 to see if I liked it enough to work towards a degree in something.  Couldn't stand going from working full-time from when I was 18 to being a poor college student.  Liked the classes but without a definite plan, I saw it for the waste of time and money that it is and decided to become a truck driver, which is one of the best decisions I've made with my life so far.  Including my decision the other day to grind up all my random trucker pills in a mortar and just have a bag of powder to snort like the guys in 'Toxic Avenger', a movie which is surpassed only by 'Convoy' in its life-life depiction of the trucking industry.
