best/weirdest thrift store find
« on: November 23, 2006, 08:29:42 AM »
have you ever found anything really great at a thrift store?

i have seen all the weird stuff because i work in the back room of one and you wouldn't believe the kinda shit people donate, either by accident or just to be a jerk (used dildos, bags of weed, blowup dolls,  poopy diapers, etc). here are some of my favorite things i have found, though..

this ridiculous shirt:

old 45 carrying case:

a bunch of school pictures of retarded kids in the seventies:

haha russ, you'd be better off talking to rotty about that blowup doll thing...i am assuming these ones were used since they were open and packed in a bag with papers for 1-800 porn lines.

The only weird thing that comes to mind involving a thrift store is the one a few blocks from my apartment. It has a bunch of used bondage goodies in a glass case up front. I always wonder how long that shit has been in there. I couldn't imagine people wanting to buy USED bondage equipment. Although I have been tempted a few times.
I'm gay.

I mostly look for records since I haven't really had much luck with clothes when thrifting.
Some of these record finds include
ESP and Milestones by Miles Davis
The Ebullient Mr. Gillespie by Dizzy Gillespie
Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death by John Fahey
The Game by Queen
an Arista-Freedom Records sampler (with Archie Shepp, Julius Hemphill, Art Ensemble, etc.)
I Love Rock N' Roll by Joan Jett in what looked like unplayed condition
Continued... by Tony Joe White
a shit load of old country records (scoring those around here are pretty easy)
etc.

How does one acidentally cut holes in clothing? I mean, I've done my share of running around with scissors and have nipped a few walls in the process, but I've yet to cut a complete hole in anything and pass it off as an accident.

I think you need to re-open that case.

well you see, she was cutting a pair of jeans to make really short cutoff shorts. we needed to go retro rollerskating. she had the rod stwart shirt underneath the pants, on the bed...

most people would be smarter, you would think. but this is also the same girl that got offended when i told her she needed help to live life, and then she proceeded to scoop her ice cream out of her bowl onto the kitchen floor.

Last summer, April Showers and I were in this super cramped thrift store and I "found" a cup of tea on a desk behind a bunch of shit and knocked it over. I just grabbed some of the smelly t-shirts, mopped up the mess and hid the evidence. The shopkeeper dude, dressed in a lady's cardigan and nothing else, didn't notice. I got a cool orange vinyl belt that day.
