Anyone wanna put there 2 cents in on this one? I never saw it and am wondering if I should bother going on Thursday to the Roxie to check it out.

I am bummed because I will not be in town to see it.  I am much more excited in checking out Farmcore than American Hardcore. I can guarentee that the talking heads in Farmcore will be a bit different than AH and the footage totally different (and pretty much unseen til now). Plus it is about a year or so in San Francisco at the tail end of a great scene.  Farm shows were huge but good. It was an interesting scene. The DKs were huge, all the Texas bands had just moved to Frisco, the people around MRR were getting foriegn hardcore bands in town.  With any luck, there will be footage of the Vats, since that was happening about the same time.  And who knows, Tales of Terror footage? (Though I dont think they played the Farm).

What is weird is that the Farm was cool but it wasnt any bigger of a deal than the Elite Club, Club Foot, On Broadway, or Sound of Music. And certainly not as important as the Mab or Deaf Club.

Yakety yak....one of my favorite places of that time was the Tool & Die. Denkinger and I mapped out some punk places in Frisco and foudn that the Tool & Die is now the new furniture place on Valencia next to Mission Creek. I forgot what the business is now where the Deaf Club used to be. Denkinger knows.

Sold! I'll check it out. Heard many tales of great shows at the Farm shows, but didn't live here at the time. If they have any Tales of Terror footage, I would be stoked!!

Ah, that's all well and good but I was hoping someone did a docu on punk bands from FARMS.  Libido Boyz (from Mankato, one of my high school faves) had a song called 'Farmcore' on their album.  All the great Wisconsin bands feature unreconstructed hicks who just happen to be smart, funny, creative and weird.  You can't stop us.

that movie is definetly worth checking out....lots of amazing footage and weird interviews.  I remember being blown away by BGK and all the newly relocated texas bands footage in particular.

Ahhh...my fantasy would have been that they had earlier footie, and some Tales of Terror... but they did have live stuff from D.O.A. , M.D.C., BGK, Mentors, Verbal Abuse, Sister Double Happiness, Frightwig, R.K.L., Fang, Scream.

Yeah totally different scene than American Hardcore. They also showed this little 6 minute film called Hardcore Home Movie by Greta Snider (1987) which was super entertaining. Basically it was just black and white footage of different punk rockers at the farm with audio recordings over it. There were some funny conversations going on for sure! Like you hear a punk girl complaining about how the skin head boys are always trying to pick up on punk girls and how punk rock boys were wimpy, etc...hilarious stuff.

Greta's movies are great! And she is a swell lass herself. Actually I think the word "rad" was made to describe her - and I mean that in a good way.

Dulcinea - any footage of the Vats?

Sorry man, that's a big nope on the Vats. A lot of the film focused on the folks that kept the Farm a float, the closing of the Farm and what a cunt the land lady was...

Sorry, spaced. The Deaf Club building has been a 'work-in-progress' hollowed out shell for about 2 years now, directly kitty corner from my back window. It's usually just two guys with a belt sander and broken hammer.

The Farm is sorta stiil 'there', there are still warehouses around there and SRL and Subterranean are still hanging in, but there's a big kid's school dominating the area now. It would not surprise me in the slightest to see those warehouses gone overnight next year and some new condos going up. Zip.
