Quaalude was a brand name for mthaqualone also marketed as Sopors and Mandrax (in Europe), in early 70s Columbus was the Sopor capitol of the U S.  I could swear Ross Labs manufactured them but am not 100%  I remember urban legend about OSU students eating them warm off the conveyer belt. Mandrax were (maybe still are) a blend of methaqualone and anti histamine thatin mid 70s you could buy, in Eur, over the counter for 50 cents a pill, I believe Mandys were a factor in Hendrix death.Ludes were the best drug until you took too many and you always took too many.  October 72 Creem has a sopor cover story, pic is a closeup of a Sopor on a girl's tongue. Can't do links from here. THanks for the memories. }n case anyone is wondering, I am exactly 100 years old.

I understand what year it is, but I don't understand your last comment. There is a mention of "ludes." Maybe I'll watch that last part again, it was fun the first time around.

Quaaludes haven't been around, essentially, since 1982. It's a weird and common misconception that any "downer" is a Quaalude, it's not, it's a specific pill. Then again, they could've been referring to the Mexican knock-off. Then again, it's a minor point, and I'm not looking for a debate on this subject.

OK, fine, lemme put it this way. You're the same age as me, basically, right? You were doing drugs by 1995, right? Did you ever do any Quaaludes? Maybe someone told you they were "ludes," but they weren't.

Quaaludes are being consumed wholesale in The Wolf of Wall Street which is set in the nineties. I too don't remember quaaludes being around in the nineties.

I just watched the movie yesterday and what it says is that basically they're buying ludes from 1982 who people kept for future profit. Doesn't mention mexican knockoffs except maybe for the pills the jock guy Officer Brad* sells. The Lemons that make Jordan and Donnie go mental are from 1982.

*I just realised that the name B r a d gets turned automatically into Officer Brad. But I did write B r a d.

Anyone know what song is playing in the opening scene of episode 5?  (Rust and Ginger are sitting at the bar)
