NOLA NOLA NOLA
« on: February 13, 2014, 06:38:07 AM »
Several NOLA thread exist but i don't give a shit.

Going to be there in May for 5 days.

Planning on doing much of the obvious stuff...Bayou, Plantation, French Quarter, Saint-Louis Cemetary, magazine Street Shoping, Euclid recirds visit...etc. I want go try Boucherie and Cochon also...

Now here's some more specific question:

Where are the best Oyster?

is there a meatless (fish is fine) version of the Muffeletas sandwich?

Where are the best Po'Boys ?

Is there any musical oddities worth checking. I said it before but what i like the most is going to see music related place that have an historical value but simply no significance today (old punk club turn into a shop, etc, an old house where an artist lived, etc, etc). Are there any such thing in NOLA?

Pizza Delicious would probably be in my top 5. Saturn bar and Siberia were both alright joints to drink at. Never went into any of the nudie shows but the gurls out the front looked decent

I thought Cochon was good.

Assuming I'm remembering the name correctly (across the street from House Of Blues, with the big upstairs record room), Louisiana Music Factory has really cool records when I was there.  Euclid was also cool.

Probably a very tourist spot, but I still thought Napoleon House was great.  Muffeleta and a Pimm's Cup was a pretty unbeatable combo.
YOU FUCKING PHILISTINE.

Regarding music-related stuff, if you're interested you can visit the hotel room that Johnny Thunders died in.  I can't remember the name off-hand but a quick search will turn it up.  A friend of mine took me there once as a quick surprise when I was in town and it was kinda cool.  They have a guest-book that fans have written in over the years.

Also, I was there a few months ago, and again as a surprise, my same friend drove me about 20 minutes out of town to an abandoned Six Flags amusement park that was destroyed in the flood.  You can just walk right in and explore the whole place, even climb up on the rollercoasters.  We were there at sunset and needless to say, it was pretty fucking creepy.

My wife and I were in NOLA two years ago and we will be going again in August. I can honestly say NOLA is one of the few places I have been to that left me wanting more. Just a beautiful city.

My short list of must do's when I return:

Go to Arnaud's and drink at least 4 French 75's
Carousel Bar
Euclid Records
Crawfish
Eat tons's of food
Go to WWII Museum

I am lucky that my best friend lives here and can act as my personal chaperone throughout the city. Doesn't hurt that his girlfriend is a native and has mad suggestions. I ate so much good food when I was there. Collin took me to all the spots, so I can't recommened any places by name. I wasn't really a fan of the muffaletta. I would be surprised if there was a fish or veggie muffaletta. The best part is being able to drink anywhere with a go cup. Don't forget your go cup.

My wife had the good idea to go to all the bar's that invented a drink and drink it there.

I thought Cochon was good.

Agreed. I want to return.

I don't even know what a "go cup" is but the exhortation to not forget it sounded hilarious to me.
I also assumed it looks like this:

Seriously though, i don't even know what NOLA is (my search engine of choice suggests a town in Central African Republic, but i guess that's not what you're talking about), but if the best thing that town has to offer is that you can drink on the street with your "go cup", it must be a pretty pathetic town. I really pity you Americans that being able to have a drink in the streets is sth extraordinary.

NOLA = New Orleans dude! It's anything except pathetic.

I can't laugh at Americans because we are not allowed either to drink in the street here in Canada which is completely ridiculous once you've been to Europe.

What's even worse is that in some US states or CAN provinces you can only buy beer at Beer/Liquor store and THAT IS WHAT YOU CAN CALL PATHETIC !

If it's not the highest it's probably close….assuming some neighborhood are worst than other like pretty much any North American US cities, but NOLA might be a bit more rough than the average though.

Go cup will keep me safe.

Make sure to try a fried shrimp po' boy from Verde Marte. I get a multitude of these every time I go...

The Old New Orleans Rum distillery tour is worth doing. Educational and they give you a good amount of drink before and after. The Cajun Spice is my favorite. Gingeroo is tasty.
