Isn't that the city with the highest homicide/crime rate in all of North America? Stay safe, dude! And don't forget your go cup!  ;)

If it's not the highest it's probably close….assuming some neighborhood are worst than other like pretty much any North American US cities, but NOLA might be a bit more rough than the average though.

Go cup will keep me safe.

It's heading in the direction of present-day Disney-NYC.

There's one place that has a veggie muffaletta but I can't for the life of me think of what it's called, though.  A muffaletta without meat kind of defeats the whole purpose anyway, and I say that as someone who hasn't eaten meat in nearly ten years.  I can give a full list of recommendations sometime soon when I'm not about to fall asleep on my keyboard.

I totally agree with you that a Muffaletta without meat is probably pointless, but the person i'm going with wanna get it bad so i figure maybe i could find a veggie version for me….i'll go for that shrimp Po' Boy thing instead...

Seriously though, i don't even know what NOLA is (my search engine of choice suggests a town in Central African Republic, but i guess that's not what you're talking about), but if the best thing that town has to offer is that you can drink on the street with your "go cup", it must be a pretty pathetic town. I really pity you Americans that being able to have a drink in the streets is sth extraordinary.

Yeah, New Orleans just sucks shit next to the white-hot ecstacy of every European town. Get the fuck outta here.

Haven't been to NOLA in years, but it's one of my favorite cities. Will never return in the middle of summer again (just brutal!), but I want to get back in the next year or two. Best food. Totally unique culture. Music everywhere. One of those places that you want to move to after first spending time there and then realize it's entirely impractical.

No, and the worst place in the US just pales next to tons of cities in Mexico. I thought you were World Traveller Dude? Is this the type of "research" you put in before you go anywhere?

Why're you so hostile, Scrod? It was Daniel who said the best thing about New Orleans is being able to drink on the street, not me. Blame him for such a ridiculous statement. I heard only good things about the Big Easy from my friends.

No, and the worst place in the US just pales next to tons of cities in Mexico. I thought you were World Traveller Dude? Is this the type of "research" you put in before you go anywhere?

I've never been to Mexico or US and i'm not planning to go anytime soon, so why should i do a in-depth research about it right now? Whats your fucking problem?

It's just funny watching how ignorant you are after positioning yourself as the "the worldly guy" is all. Back to NOLA.

Daniel comment isn't ridiculous in a North American perspective. How many US cities allowed you to drink on the street? and when i say that i don't mean ALL the street but specific one. Las Vegas Strip, Memphis Beale street and NOLA french quarter, Maybe few others i ain't no expert but there isn't a lot of it. In Canada unless i'm fucking ignorant i can't find one that allowed such a leisure.

So being excited about such a thing is totally relevant, well for me it is at least.

So sure it sound weird from a European perspective when you don't even have to think about that when opening a bottle but this is not the case around here.

Come on, Marc never bragged about such a title and always been totally humble about the fact he travelled so many place.

Not at all, he spent much time bragging about everywhere he's travelled, too much for the incredibly ignorant statements above. But I don't want to hijack your thread so I'm done for now.

Growing up in small town Wisconsin, people were out on the streets drinking all the time. It was unofficially OK. That's changed by now outside of more rural areas. Otherwise, NOLA and Vegas are the only ones I can think of.

I'm well aware of this and totally understand it. My comment that i pity americans for this was a honest and sincere one and was not at all meant in a Europe-is-superior kinda way, though it seemed to rub Scrod the wrong way.

Meanbean started the Globetrotter thread and since he singled me out in his OP, i replied and typed down where i've been (which isn't really that much anyway imo). If you call that bragging, fine, i don't care.

I don't know, i never felt that Marc was acting like a "douch traveller type " who always knows more than you do and went to place you didn't go or was more off beaten track than you and so on. he was the first one to say he didn't like name dropping a list of country visited and so on. I was the one insisting to know...blame it on me.

Always thought his tip about that or this place was always welcome and relevant and seems also quite open to others recommendation. So if this is what you call bragging, than this forum he's full of douche people bragging about what they are listening to and what they recently acquire or how much they paid 5 $ less than you for this or that raer record or whatever.

That being said, back to NOLA,  my friend told me also that visiting NOLA in the summer was insupportable. Very hot and humid. May should be fine i guess

May can also be very hot - first time I went to NOLA, it was May and over 100 (and steamy). But you're more likely to get decent weather then than in the months following. Locals hopefully will help fill you in (so far it's just others who have visited).

He was acting like a douche regarding your legit questions about NOLA, period. The ignorance surprised me, because he has stated that travelling is his real passion, so you'd think someone like that would have more insight (or just keep quiet).

The way I read it, Marc didn't know what "Nola" was, which isn't that crazy. Then when someone said the best part was being able to drink in the street, he figured that must be a pretty boring place if public alcohol consumption is the best they've got to offer. Why do yer nuts get twisted so easily?
it's all bullshit, and it's bad for ya.
